The Log Home Neighborhood

An online log home community for log home enthusiasts.

I've heard it both ways....some say it's smart to spray a product like Boracare onto the exterior of your logs before you stain and finish them. Others are telling me it's a waste of money since the insect larva is supposedly killed in the drying process.

I just want to make sure "new" insects will gag when they get a bite of my logs!!!!!! I have a Crockett Log home nearing completion this fall and just want some sound advise???

Thanks

Hi Dave. Julie and I will need to treat our logs with a borate solution. We discovered that the logs we used have not been borate treated and they were not kiln dried. We used dead standing trees for our logs. We will be staining this summer, Do we want to spray a borate solution on our logs just prior to staining them? Do we need to use a pressure strayer or would a pump sprayer which is commonly used to spray fruit trees good enough?

Never skip the borate. It's not just insects it works on.
