Please read this before even considering Amerlink/In The Woods Log Homes! My wife and I have just consulted an attorney to help us deal with our situation with Amerlink.

We purchased a "Ventura II" package from Amerlink in Dec. 2007 and scheduled our delivery for July 10th, 2008. We did everything they asked us to do to prepare for delivery including 3 friends missing a day of work to help us, renting an expensive fork truck, even had our framing crew on-site to stage materials and start work. They said 2 trucks would be arriving with our package. But only one truck showed up with 2/3rds of the logs we were supposed to get. Nothing else! And we had to give full payment to the driver before unloading that!

I called John Barth, Amerlink's President and CEO to find out where our materials were. He told me the "local supplier" that would be bringing our lumber and all other materials was closed for 4 days for inventory. I asked him what that had to do with our delivery which Amerlink had 7 months to prepare for? He could not give me an answer. And now, here it is, 3 months after our confirmed delivery date and we still have not received all of our materials.

This was the beginning of a long string of lies to us from the president of Amerlink. He promised to reimburse us for the expenses we incurred due to their negligence in the delivery of our log home package, totalling over $16,000. We submitted our receipts for reimbursement and we haven't heard from him or Amerlink in 6 weeks!

We were naive to believe there is honesty and integrity with Amerlink. Please don't make the same mistake we did! Don't be another Amerlink victim!

If you have had a similar experience with them, or discussion, please share it with the forum. We need to inform all the potential buyers we can reach!

Eddy,

I was surprised to read your blog about the way the BBB of NC was handling this since I trust the BBB to give good advice. I sent an email to the BBB office in question pointing out all the complaints that are different websites concerning Amerlink and how could they possibly carry the rating BBB had given them. The following email was just sent to me from the BBB:
--------------------------
We have put the company’s report on “update” status, and have sent a letter to the company. We are looking into this matter.

Best regards,

Let's hope that they clear up the obvious confusion over this company. I would think that any information that you unfortuanate customers of Amerlink can provide will help.

Joe
Yes you are right Joe. When the BBB has multiple listings, even in different states for one company, it can be confusing. You may get good reports on a local office and not be aware of bad reports at another location or home office. Thanks for following up on it.

Eddie
Effective December 8, 2008, Amerlink & In The Woods Log Homes has closed its doors and gone out of business. My heart goes out all the customers that are waiting for either the remainder of their material packages or reimbursement, I wish you the best of luck with your situation.
Logtruth, can you post something that backs this statement up? Where are you getting your information?
thanks.
I was as of 9am this morning a representative of Amerlink & In The Woods Log Homes. I reported to the office just like any other Monday and when I arrived is when I found out as well as the other employees in the office. The following is an email received from the corporate office titled "shutdown procedures":

I know this is a shock to some as well as me, we all know that Amerlink & In The Woods Log Homes was going through some financial troubles, but even as an employee this was a shock to me.
Okay, that answers my question. Thanks Logtruth. I hope you can find another job.
Thanks Rick,

Just to validate this further, for anyone in disbelief. The following is a response from an outlook "out of office assistant".

As of December 8, 2008 Amerlink and In The Woods Log Homes has Gone out of Business and closed its offices.

I am no longer an employee of Amerlink and In The Woods Log Homes.
Neither am I .. but I can still draw plans .. if anyone needs any.. please let me know .
John, I hope you and the other few decent people that worked there can find comparable jobs. I know you all put up with a lot of crap there. With your great talents, I'm sure you can get a job drafting/designing with another company.
I was told today that there are RICO indictments and lawsuits to be served in the near future to management, customer service, and several sales personel (John, you're safe). I read one lawsuit today that listed many names in The Rocky Mount office which I then forwarded to several readers of this particular thread. Carroll County, VA has a $600K lawsuit against Amerlink pending and CCG Advisors, Ltd has a $668K lawsuit (Case Number: 5:2007cv00394 Federal Court Eastern NC District) against them. The CCG lawsuit was filed 10-11-07.
Eddie Carr should be greatly commended for his actions in starting this thread. Those people he saved from losing their hard-earned money to AmerLink owe him a huge debt of gratitude. To those of you that have your logs, you are lucky to have that much considering there are many that will never even see the first log. Not much consolation I'm sure.
Many of you will have pending lawsuits against AmerLink, In The Woods, Harlingen Holdings, and Pro-Form Construction. Keep in mind that most of their property, as John Barth told the Carroll County Board, is borrowed-against already and those banks will have secured those loans with Personal Guaranty's, so the banks will be first in line if/when those loans are foreclosed.
Like Eddie Carr, I wish I had posted what I knew a year ago. I apologize for not having done so.
I wish I would have known to but they kept hanging out that carrot. I doubt I will see the money they owe me. it breaks my heart to know that my kids aren't having a christmas this year because of them. RP could you email the link to the lawsuit. Thanks wbabcock68@yahoo.com
Thank you very much RP. I really do appreciate it.

JB
We have worked , carrying the homes, for Amerlink for 10 years. We have been lied to as well. We carried the log homes to their customers . We knew they had gotten paid for the "freight expenses" on thier COD from the home buyer. T hey didnt pay us for almost 11,000 in freight charges. That may seem like nothing to some of the losses but I didn't realize that they where such crooks. John Barth I hope you realize what you have done to many families and people.
