Apparantly Fletcher Parsons was one of three partners in BPB Log Homes before starting up ALS. Does any one have any hands on information on BPB Log Homes?
Greetings, Gatorgene! I little bit of history about Appalachian Log Structures, Inc (ALSI) and the relationship with BPB Log Homes. As one of the original Homeowners of an ALSI log home and a current employee of same hopefully I can shed some light on your question. The Burke Parsons Bowly Corporation was formed in 1955 by 3 WVU graduates...Fletcher Parsons being the "P" in BPB. For 20 years BPB focused heavily on supplying pressure treated products to the Railroad and Mining industries. Log Homes were not developed as a BPB product line until 1977 and were then marketed under the name "Appalachian Log Structures". Disagreement among owners about focusing more on log homes eventually lead to the sale of ALSI to Fletcher in 1990. BPB decided to re-enter the log home market a few years later and marketed their homes under the name "BPB Log Homes". Fletcher pioneered the borate pressuring treating process in this country and is still one of the best authorities on wood preservation. Although they may look alike, there are major quality differences between BPB and ALSI. Wayne can further elaborate on such outside this forum. BPB is now owned by Stella Jones from Canada.
