We will only be at our cabin on weekends and maybe a full week a couple times a year. We are installing a security system. I was wondering is it worth it to put some lights or radios on timers as suggested by most security experts?
Nowadays burglar are pretty smart. Most will come up to your door and knock because they know people have light timers. And most burglaries occur during the day. Our cabin is pretty secluded. So if someone takes the time to drive up our drive. I am sure they will knock and look around.
We have outside lights and motion lights around the house so my husband thinks its a waste of money to keep some inside lights on.
We only have 2 TVs in the cabin to steal anyway. We don't keep any other valuables there permanently. Thank you.

Motion sensored game cameras and signs that say "Smile, You're On Camera!" as you go in the driveway, was the technigue the owners of a hunting lodge we worked on recently used. It seems like an effective way to discourage petty criminals.

It would seem to me that vandalism is more of a worry than theft.
If you will have internet access - get a couple of IP cameras that will sent you an email if there is any motion. We have 3 of them and we can monitor them from out main house. We are like you - just there on weekends and a few weeks per year. We do have a timer for light on each floor - can't hurt and how much electricity will you use??? cheap insurance. Pitch dark is much more inviting for someone.
