The Log Home Neighborhood

An online log home community for log home enthusiasts.

Our log home is in Gobles, MI near Kalamazoo, MI.  We have owned the home for 10 years and have always had a problem with the invasion of house flies and wasps in the fall but this year there are close to a hundred on the south facing window every day that it is sunny.  I have tried commercial attractants from Gemplers but to no avail.  Does anyone have a suggestion and if it involves sealing around the window, whom do I call?  Thank you for any helpful info.  I'm beside myself!

Thanks, Joe for taking the time to respond. I was afraid of the answer. It's just so discouraging especially since we're expecting guests for the holiday. Think twice about building that log home!

Thanks...I clicked on the URL and it is no longer available. What tool do I look for on the Harbor Freight Tool website?

Marcia, I know that your original post was several months ago. but i have some insight to your fly problem that may give you something to consider. Flies come into your home through various ways. Windows, doors, checks in the logs, penetration points from out side around wires, pipes and vents, also through the tongue and groove decking on your ceiling. Most of these problems could have been prevented during construction, had the builder spent a couple hundred dollars on some additional caulking. other problems, such as checks in the logs and gaps in the tongue and groove ceiling are just part of a log cabin, that need to be addressed.  Look on the web at denythefly.com . i am a log home builder and log home maintenance Contractor who has seen their process not only decrease the number of flies by as much as 85% but also help lower heating and cooling cost by sealing air draft areas down to the thickness of a dime. Hope it is something that helps you. he is the only one able to do the  kind of work he does as he built the machine that he uses and it is the only one in existence.
