My wife and I are considering buying a log home in Western North Carolina. We are early in the process and don't have an agreement to buy the home yet. However, I am getting ready in the event things go forward and will want to have someone that is knowledgeable inspect the home. Anyone have any recommendations for someone who can examine the home and look for issues? I think I would like to have someone who really knows log homes in addition to just a regular home inspector. Thanks for any information.
Location of home and log style?
Well, it is a machine milled log style--double tongue in groove design from what I can tell. I believe it is likely Pine from the Southeast. Location is in the Highlands/Cashiers area of Western NC.
Hi, Stephen. That's good that you want to have a log home specialist take a look and give you their opinion. Most traditional home inspectors aren't equipped to give you information on the condition of the logs themselves.
A couple names for you:
Log Home Maintenance, Inc.
Both are in your area. Let them know that Charis at Sashco sent you. :-)
Hope that helps!
