Hi Everyone.. I'm a new member to the forum and just wanted to say Hi! My story in relation to Log Homes is a little unusual in that I currently live in the UK ( not exactly somewhere known for log homes!) but I've bought land in Transylvania, Romania where my husband and I are retiring to in 2020. We're currently having our dream log house built on our plot In Transylvania and it's been quite a journey so far. Firstly the bureaucracy In Romania is beyond belief so just getting the Building authorisation in the first place has been quite a feat! Secondly there are not many log home builders in Romania but luckily for us we managed to track down a company called Operativ Construct who , so far, have been amazing. Our plan is to construct a full log home, no dry walls, vaulted ceilings etc ...in fact the full log home hit! I am so excited.
Because the company do not kiln dry their logs, the project has had to be planned well in advance of us retiring in 2020. The structure hopefully will be up on site by Nov this year but then it has to sit, without windows or doors, for almost 2years to dry and allow for shrinkage. The final stage of the project will then begin in 2019 when we add doors, windows, kitchens, bathrooms etc etc.
The language barrier has been a bit of a problem but luckily we have an amazing project manager who speaks perfect English. Without her none of this would have been possible because she has literally had to hold our hand and guide us through the unbelievable bureaucratic processes we've navigated to get where we are now.
We're back out there in June to " take reception" of the house which currently is being constructed on our builders site. If we're happy then it will be deconstructed and shipped on 9 lorries to our site in Nov for that reconstruction.
Anyway, I have no doubt I'm going to need advise and guidance from you guys regarding many aspects of the remaining build over the next few years so i'm really glad I've found this forum.
Thanks for taking the time to read .........
That's awesome, Amanda! The rendering of the home you attached shows a beautiful home. I have also heard that Romania is a beautiful country. That's very exciting!
I'll look forward to hearing how things go over the next few years. Talk about planning ahead!
