TENNEESSEE LOG HOMES HAS CLOSED ITS DOORS

TENNESSEE LOG HOMES WILL NOT ANSWER THE PHONES. WENT TO THE LOCATION IN ATHENS TN. AND IT LOCKED UP AND NO ONE IS IN THE OFFICES. I asked the chamber of commerce and they said the banks had called its loans and closed them down.

I wish I was surprised. I was dismayed at how few vendors were at the Branson Log Home Show last month. I've heard its been the same at most shows. Really important today to do your "due diligence" before settling on any Log Home Company or builder.

I don't think it is possible to choose a wrong Log Company, only the wrong builder.

In a properly functioning system the builder will be doing ALL the research on the log manufacturers, products, log components, fastening methods, wood preservation, thermal factors. He would be able to present to home owners ALL the different log profiles and be able to present a simple cost comparison, advantages, and disadvantages to ALL these different scenarios. And most importantly, he would be able to provide and properly construct ANY combination chosen by the homeowner and be FULLY responsible like any builder in conventional construction.

It's too bad that the log home enthusiast has become responsible to do ALL this research and then becomes responsible to the result of a well marketed, over priced kit dumped on the construction site with half the materials that would have been available at the local lumber yard.

You kind of sound like the current administration Ray. Log Home enthusiasts are capable people too. They want to do some research on their own not just build what the builder says is the best. Recommendations are good, but lets get more than one.

Jackie, you are right of course.

All I'm trying to say is, a builder will not claim that pine is a superior material to cedar, douglas fir or hemlock, They will also not claim to be able to offer it for the same price.

You're kidding, right Ray??? Like in anything else, Log Companies run from "shoddy" to "deluxe."

I don't kid on this website Mark, you are right of course about companies that range from shoddy to deluxe. I'm saying, that a builder that knows the ropes of his trade (log homes) will easily recognize a shady company. And in the event of a shady supplier, the builder should be liable, never the home owner.

Well, I have had the same experience with Heritage Log Homes in Kodak, TN. We were really pleased with the product, the company and our builder. Then two years after we moved into our new log home, they went out of business. Tennessee Log Homes in Athens, TN was our second choice for the product and now they are gone also!!

If you go to google, and type in the search Knox News Burton Webb, a news story will come up that is really interesting. Mr. Webbs business went under, so now a old college buddy hired him to handle Knox County's finances. There was also a story on the wbir news site. I saw he is selling his 7000 sq ft timberframe home in Idaho (77 azure ct) (its in the Tamarack Ski Resort which I have read has had its own financial problems) It just amazes me how some people seem to just glide through life on others dollar! Good Luck Knox County!!!

To follow up on the story here, Apparently Mr .Webb had a really bad friday the 13th. The day he was slated to start his new job as finance director for Knox county, he was fired. Apparently, someone from Ky he sold a home to was not treated honestly, and there is a felony C indictment for his arrest. I read this on several news sites! Please Consumers watch who you do business with these days! Do your homework, and be careful.

I came across a web site for Natural Element Homes, which is a business ran by the former COO of Tennessee Log Homes, Robert Lambert. On this site, he has a photo which, Burton Webb (the former owner of Tennessee Log Homes) is at the head of the table. I was wondering if Mr. Webb, who apparently, couldn't keep his business going, defaulted loans etc... is in any way, involved with the Natural Element Homes???
