Rick is that a screw jack or a compression bolt?
I've only seen a couple of folks use the compression bolts that go all the way through the logs (top to bottom) always thought they were a waste of time and money because the home is going to continue to compress as the logs dry out to meet the humidity of the area (provided that the slip pins/ alignment rods are installed properly). Beautiful spirals though...
Found a couple. Excuse the mess on the third, we had not began to clean up for the day.
my 2 year old handcrafted log home has developed some large checks which concern me. I know in theory that "checks are a natural process and seldom affect structural integrity" - but, I am concerned that the cracks may be due to stress on the logs because I am not properly adjusting the screw jacks. Is that possible? Or are the checks for sure not caused by un-level settling??
