Hi All,

I'm a new member and I want to let folks know that I have somewhat of an odd specialty... I design and build Man-cave (yes I know this is a Ladies forum but maybe one of you is thinking about doing a Man-Cave for the hubby) Deer Hunter Table Lamps. See attached photo of one of my lamps.

I have found that I can use the same techniques to make rustic log home/cabin lamps. Please take a peek at http://www.CarolinaCamoCreations.com where you will see my original Lamps, line of Camo Lamp Shades, and matching Camo Throw pillows. If you can dream it I can make it. 

I'm currently working on matching floor lamps that should be show-stoppers. Will post when completed. In the meantime here's one of my popular Camo styles...

I just wanted to say hello and tell you that I am excited that I found other designing women.  I love being in this industry and am having so much fun "finally" building our own log home.

I never thought about locating the outlets in the trim.  I'll ask our builder about that.

Hi Carol:

Typically what we recommend is that the outlets be located with in the 1 X 6 trim board along the log walls.  we install them horizontally instead of vertically.  We do this in part because we do not think wall outlets are something that should be seen more than necessary. 

 

We do not know if you are on a slab or basement.  That has a lot to do with how you run your wiring.  We typically mark on the sub floor what electrical item is going above and then the height and drill each log as we install them up to that height with a 1 1/4" bit [IE outside sconce at 76"]  We have the logs drilled as they go up to 76" then all the electrican has to do is drill at 76"hieght directly over the mark on the sub floor. 

Before we install the first log we drill at where the first log will go, and angle down through the sub floor so the wiring easily passes into the main floor trusses below; so the wring is simple for the electrician.

Hi, everyone.  We are currently building our retirement log home which should be completed Spring, 2012.  The electrical wiring is going to be installed next week so there are some final decisions that need to be made--like where to place the outlets.  I'm thinking there need to be some in the floor especially in the great room.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for the compliment.  They are actually a bit distressed - on purpose - so when the grandchildren bang them up it won't be traumatic!!   I do love the up-aiming lights over the cabinets too - really brightens thing up!

Hi Bristol - I have seen several log homes choose this for the cabinetry.  It does break up the "all wood look".  One of the homes on our websites model home tour (the Applecreek) incorporates white glazed cabinetry.  If you'd like to take a look go to http://expeditionloghomes.com/photo-gallery/applecreek.

Hello all! I am curious to your thoughts about white glazed kitchen cabinetry in a log home. I am trying to lighten up the inside also trying to break up the wood walls and wood floors.

Hi..we cover our TV when the cabin is vacant in the winter,so far no problems..
