I have several customers interested in applying just a clear coat with no stain beneath it. Speaking with Perma chink the clear coat is not going to hold up on its own. Has anyone attempted this or…Continue

"No, and the pigment in the color coat  offers UV protection. You are asking for trouble if you do a job that way by using a clear coat only.   Beth Borrego    "

CharisB replied to Chris Woody's discussion clear coats
"It depends on the type of clear coat, but they will do 1 of 2 things: 1) wear off, leaving the underlying wood bare, and thus exposed to UV damage; or 2) peel away, leaving the underling wood exposed.  There are some deep-penetrating oil-based…"

"What happens once it breaks down? My customers want a natural grey. Will it continue to protect the wood from water, will it continue to hold the borates in the wood. Once it breaks down is it done and no longer protecting on any level or just uv."

CharisB replied to Chris Woody's discussion clear coats
"We have yet to hear of or see in action a clear coat that will hold up for very long.  The pigment in stain is like the "long sleeves" of your UV protection.  You can use a clear coat and it will act like an SPF 15, which lasts…"

Hello there, I will say I have not been on this site since the day I set it up. Did not get much activity and let it go. You have some beautiful pictures. Happy New Year.

Hello Chris,

You related to "Pat" of Woody Woodchinking?  I think Ernie Kauffman has worked with you all and you traveled and chinked the Knisely home?  If so, keep up the good work.  I'll try not to tarnish your name.

Hi Chris and welcome to the neighborhood. Your work is like ours except

we travel all over doing restorations. We love to see the look on customers faces when they see their log home look like new again. It really a pleasure

to hear them say what a great job we did to make it look that way.

Good luck with your business and have a great Xmas. Dolly
