What to look for in a chinking job

Just a few things to look for when examining a potential log home purchase with chinking.  Thermal imaging revealed a poor chinking job showing 20+ degree temperature differences on just one corner of the log home.  Upon closer inspection, the wrong backer rod 'open cell' was used 20 years ago on this log home.  The open cell backer rod, especially on the exterior is now just a crumbly mess after being exposed to moisture for 2 decades.  The owner has been struggling through 3 different…See More

"Correct, you need a tow behind your truck Ingersol Rand or Sullair 185 or better.  A couple of more things to consider is that these beasts use a lot of diesel.  We often go through 50 gallons of diesel a day with our Sullair.  Sand…"

"Also with square foot pricing, I have never seen someone measuring actually take the roundness of the log into account.  A 20 long x 20 foot high log wall is not equal to a 20 X 20 flat wall.  The 20 x 20 log wall is not 400 sq ft, you…"
