My husband built a two story 28x28 log home about 6 years ago and since we have had one child and another is on the way. We are remodling and need to cut out two log walls. We have a problem though.…

Hi Corie, If you have a good metal detector, use that to find as many spikes as possible and mark the log using kids sidewalk chalk. If you don't have one, I am sure there is a friend out there that has one. I wouldn't bother using old chain blades.…

Based on the posting date, I would guess you have completed the task. If so, let us know how it went. If you haven't done it, I have a suggestion. Get a metal detector, and draw a map on the wall where you can cut avoiding the spikes. You can clean…

Corie, I would use the chainsaw first with old chains.....slowly go into the log until you hit the metal and back off then use the sawzall....It might cost you a few chains but be very careful.....IF you press too hard you may break the chain which…
