2009 will be retirement from Medical Services / EMT / Firefighter. Recently WON a log home which makes retirement a much more attainable dream. Enjoy motorcycling (Honda VTX-1800) and photography. Plan to do a lot of both going forward. Enjoy long distance riding. If you are in the Lake City, Mi. area and ride, make contact. Always willing to get out on two wheels!
Are you lucky enough to be living in a log home?
YES! Just WON one in northern Michigan

Yes, we are just a little north of you. Congrats on your log home! How did you win it? I would love to see some pictures!
Also, we decided to replace the kitchen, so we knocked everything down except the island to use as a work table. You are defiantly right about the islands. At home we do not have a island and it is very cluttered. When this cabin is done, it will defiantly have a island.
We also stayed up there camping last weekend. It is starting feel like home.
Just as you said, "The first quiet night that you get to relax by the fire and enjoy the quiet will let you know that you've come home."
I think all of this work will pay off.
Good luck selling your farm downstate, and have fun at your new log home!
Howdy Dan, my DH and I have a cabin about 10 miles so. of Houghton Lake. we don't 'ride' but love to socialize. My DH is one of the owner's of a private ambulance service downstate, the 2 of you would have a lot in common. Do you like to fish?
You are close to us! I'll be over to have coffee - ha,ha!! Like you & your wife, we are "weekend warriors" at our log cabin for now. We still have quite a few years till retirement but our dream is to ultimately live in Northern Michigan. I think winter is easier in Northern Michigan if you keep busy at activities. We ski, snow shoe, find festivals, go to the parks, etc and winter becomes fun. Have you checked our that Traverse Magazine site "My North" yet? They have activities listed by interest, city, and month. So maybe you can help your Texan wife find some fun this winter!
(On Nov. 15th in Grayling - they are having a christmas parade / festival.)
