From dreams to reality

In August 2008 my husband finally saw the light - and agreed we need to sell some other property and invest in lake front property where we can put up a home. So in August of 2008 we began the process of purchasing land on the shores of Gitchee Gummee. We are also selling farm land - way out in the country as our collective dream is to live at the shore. Our goals are to have a handccrafted log home that we can use for vacations - and to rent out (gotta pay the bills). Will we retire there? - only time will tell.

We then spent some time looking around the area, talking, and dreaming. We did confirm (agree) we wanted a log home. And we wanted a handcrafted log home. So we chose the best (in our opinion): Jerry Koski

We are moving along - and have had all the contingencies met and our offers accepted. We even have approval for funding - now we wait for the appraisal. It has been a roller coaster with the National budget issues and bank problems. For awhile we thought no one was lending money - then my brother had lunch with the president of a bank and mentioned us to him! And we were approved within a day! Gotta love those connected relatives!

Closing on our property is scheduled for 10/29/08 - keeping those logs crossed that all continues to go well. We are postponing the septic system until spring. So . . . . in the meantime we keep planning and dreaming.

We own it! Escrow has closed and we own our Lake Superior property. One hundred eighty five lake front feet - one of my life's dreams has been recognized through the grace of God!

Wow! Time has moved fast - but getting started has been slow. I cannot believe it has been 2 years since we started this with the purchase of our land. But I am excited to say - BUILDING HAS BEGUN!!

May 2011

I haven't had time to post pictures - but I will someday.  We are here in the UP working on our cabin.  Changing the interior design yet again and loving life on the lake!  The shell is completed, most of the windows are in, the roof is on - and now the finishing touches are being added.  Then we'll proceed to the interior walls; fireplace; bathroom; and kitchen  - then the fun! Decorating!  But that's a long way off!

Our journey begins - May 2010

We had an unexpected trip to the UP at the end of May and decided to take this time to begin our construction phase for our log home. In what seemed like a whirlwind event - we met with Jerry Koski (http://www.koskiloghomes.com/phpstuff/test.php#) and toured a couple more building sites. We drew up the plans at his kitchen table and proceeded to dream about the finished house.

Our house will measure 35" by 44"…

My lot has an existing Septic system, but I can find out who to use. Jerry Koski is lining up The Excavator and basement guys so he could better tell you than I. I'm talking to him this week, and will ask.
