I noticed you're located in Michigan, and I'm curious whether you're familiar with or participate in Log Cabin Days, headed up by Virginia Handy and the Log Cabin Society in Sodus, Michigan. She's in the process of organizing the 24th annual celebration, which occurs each year on the last Sunday in June and includes a road tour of 100 different historic cabins across the state. I just spoke with her last week, and I'm sure she'd be very interested in learning about yours. Planning a working week-end at the cabin. Still furnishing and while Pat is in Denver "playing" with our grand-children, I get to assemble bunk beds and an island top at the cabin. We are trying to maintain a simple existance there but you still have to have the basics. My biggest challenge was purchasing mattresses for the bunks. I wanted them to be comfortable but not so much so that guests became long term. Would you call that selfish? I hope that at some point we all can get together for coffee. What agency does your husband work with. I started out my career with JEMS ambulance out of Jackson before moving on to other work and agencies. We too, follow the festivals and did find the Traverse magazine which has become our cabin bible. I plan to spend some time just enjoying a fire in the wood burner but have been admonished that the work gets done first! For some reason a fire is enjoyable but also an absolute ambition killer. I wonder if I can expect snow,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Love your photos - I want to sit in those chairs at the lake too! We'll be Michiganders also - but Yoopers. Our escrow just closed on Lake Superior property. Dee.

Just got back and had to leave that beautiful lake and the boat in the water until the spring. I'm tyring to upload a different photo for the contest, but I'm not sure how to do it? Do you know?

Hi Denise, Thank you for the comments! I love your older cabin - here is a picture of our 50 yr old (approx) 850sqft. cabin. It was hand built from trees on the property. We also have interesting plumbing and well stories. We recently decided to build another cabin on the same property - larger, with room for more guests and possible retirement, one day. I do love the charm of an old log cabin and yours looks to be in great shape! The cabinets in the new cabin are knotty pine. Take care ~ Anne
