"Also best bet is to buy the logs locally if at all possible. A air-dried or kiln dried log is going to respond differently to the building location (tons of humidity or very little). You also have different insects to contend with in various…"

What is the real story about purchasing and building a log home???

My husband and I can't wait to begin building a log home but have heard horror stories about the "hidden" costs and the intricit details involved in building a log home... We both have dreamed of having a log home all of our lives and now we have the opportunity to do it BUT we want all the facts before we go investing and then get stuck... Would someone please give me the truth?

Denise, look at buying a kit, then look at finding a builder that buys random length logs to build with. Random lenght buying usually saves quite a bit of money, because there are alot of savings by not having the kit company supply all of the normal building materials. You can buy all of that stuff yourself
