Hi Diane and thanks for the invitation to be on your friends list. Mark and I were at the property yesterday while watching our ridge beam being put in. We had to hire that out because the beam is 38' long and 20" in diameter. It weighs in at 3300lbs. We couldn't lift that one together and it's up 22ft. in the air. We're good, but not that good. :) It was very interesting and we got some great pictures that I will load as soon as I pick up the disk. Those kids that put it in for us, made us feel really old! They just walk around, 22 ft. up and aren't tied to anything. They are very agile! Good luck with your house! I'm anxious to watch as our homes come together. I know you both are very proud!

Diane, It seems like it takes forever but it really does go by quickly when you look back. We took photos of all the stages and made a photo album. It is fun to look back and see how far we have come in the last 12 months. We dug our foundation in May of 2008 and all we have left is adding some native landscaping. Hang in there -- it is well worth it.

Hi Diane,

I apologize for not writing sooner, but I haven't been on the site for quite some time. We do love the slate and put it in our mudroom, our 4-season room and in our master bath. We recently even put a small slate tile on our kitchen wall and sealed it. I will post a few pics so you can see some of our other rooms.

My husband puts two coats of sealer on the slate and it works great. The colors really pop with the sealer, it is easy to clean, and there is no dusty coating on the tile.

I prefer the stone look of slate over ceramic tile. I think it looks nice with the logs and wood flooring. Good luck with your log home!
