So you want to build a log cabin.....

I would like to share our log home story.  When my husband and I decided to build a cabin, we were very excited.  So 30 years ago, we built a basic ranch, 8" round log saddle notched home.  As the years have gone by, we are now 60 years old, this home is a lot of upkeep.  We love our home, but as the aging process, on the human body, takes over your life, a log home is a whole lot of work.  I have to laugh now when people say, "I want to build a log home to retire in"   OMG You can only…

Carpender Bees

I'll tell you how to get rid of those bees, stand in the area where they are, and swat the hell out of them with your tennis racket, hat, or anything else that is around.  We have contests to see how many we each can hit every day.  It is fun and something to do in the country!  hahaahah

Easy Mary,Buying just logs and beams, getting remaining materials locally, and being the general contractor is not cost effective, and is not acceptable to most lenders. Folks who have plenty of free time and deep pockets can build a log home.Log home lovers are independent but they still want to build with a budget.Don't give up on your dream.

Good morning - I was reading one of the blogs where you suggested buying the logs only and getting the other materials locally. We are interested in that route but have not been successful in finding someone for just logs. Thanks for any input
