Thanks for your reply. Your still further along than I am. This economy has really put a crinkle in our plans. We want to be out of debt, have our land payed for and finish paying off college for our kids. We've been moving along with that. We have been fairly diligent.

I drew up our plans for our home with a cad program so I have a good start to give to a designer. It seems it takes a year to get everything drawn and the wheels put into motion, then another 6 months to a year to get a home built.  Did you get any snow there? We got about 8" here and it turned very cold. Best of luck with your home. Going to check my trail cam today, If I get any good pictures I may post them.

I haven't heard from you lately. How is your log home quest going? I got a trail cam for Christmas and am still playing with it. I got some pics of local dogs and quit a few birds, some in flight and a coyote, but no deer yet. I may need to move it on an actual trail.

We bought 10 wooded acres with a nice creek and the front is already cleared for a home. My thumb pic I use is the actual property and I have a pic of the creek on my page with other pics of our land that I supper imposed a log home on. I put a salt block on it on the edge of the woods for deer. The neighbors told me they see deer at it often.

Thanks for putting me on your friends list. If there is anything you want to discuss about your log home plans, please do not hesitate to post a discussion or email me. I've been pulling information together now for about 2 years and have a lot of knowledge that I am more than willing to share. Ted

I just thought I'd say hello from Kansas. We are hoping to build in a couple years also. I don't know if your a college basketball fan but both Oklahoma teams played well this year so far. Its been fun watching the Big 12. I am a KU fan but really liked watching the Griffins play. I read a lot on green building and try to keep updated on new things. Some are good but cost prohibitive. I wish you the best in your log home endevours.

From what I've been hearing or have read, it seems that putting a trailer of some sort on the property while you are building, is the most popular way to solve the problem. I would appreciate seeing pictures of the trailer on the site once you start building. Ted

Good idea about building the garage first. I take it that your garage will be a separate structure from your house. If it is, it makes good sense. Be careful of the local building codes. The building departments generally frown on structures that do not have a C of O. Frankly, I would do the same as you but my garage will be under the house. So it would be just a matter of a week or so before the shell was completed and then I could move into that. Also not a favorite idea of building departments but you have to do what you have to do.
