That is a good question Joe and one I had pondered a lot on,searching for info. Since I live in the midwest and because of my property layout, the road to the north side and woods on both sides and to the south I want the great room glass area to fa…

If you have forced air for a furnace or A/C you should put in at least 2 stud spaces (32") of return air in your loft on an inside wall depending on sq ft of loft area and maybe more. Your heating A/C pros should do a heat loss/gain for each room in…

Only the island is black but maybe this will give you an idea with colors as the logs are a light honey color. http://www.goldeneagleloghomes.com/log_home_plans_pricing/photo_album/log_home_photo_album.asp?PhotoSet=3

I grew up by Le Claire, Iowa. A small town that sits on the banks of the Mississippi in eastern Iowa. It has some history in that there used to be rapids there and specialized tug boat captains used to hire out to the paddle wheels to get them throu…

Thanks for the tip Chantal. I did know about that and was planning on doing it but I was wondering how big a hole did they drill in inches? It almost looks like a 1/2 inch hole.

I grew up by a river town that was a rapids area on the mississippi before the locks and damns were put in where a lot of special river boat captains lived that would pilot boats through the rapids; paddle wheels. They have a paddle wheel dry docked…

Are you still contemplating? Analysis paralysis?

HI Glenn. Do you think there would be any harm in letting my cabin go ice cold in the winter as long as all the plumbing was blead out, all the way to the main in the yard, and R.V. antifreeze in the traps ? My buddy keeps his place at 55 all winter, I have no desire to heat if I'm not there

I'm the one who had the barn and General Store buildings on my page. I don't know much about these things, but still haven't been able to figure out the right way to respond to a comment - YOU seem like an expert! Any advice to a newbie? The general store is actually a bunk-house we use when we visit my Dad. There are just 4 bunks, pot-belly stove, couch and some chairs. We plan to build a 28x42 home with a loft and walk-out next to it. We will probably try to attach them by boardwalk and/or deck. I will try to get more pictures up this week. Thanks again for your comments - when you look at my site, you will see my original reply to you turned out to be a comment from me to me.

I was just informed by customer service that the calendar is not part of the subscription and that I could buy one if I wanted. Were did you get yours ? Thanks Greg

Yum - cherry and apple trees. Golden Eagle is a great company. They participate in our Start Right program now, too. If you want info on that, let me know and I'll send it out. It's basically our way of helping people get off on the right foot and giving them a stain warranty along with it.

Henderson is northeast of Denver about 20 minutes - it's a suburb. I'm not much of a skiier myself but I love to watch the skiiers from the lodge. :-)

P.S. It's hard to go overboard with the knowledge with log homes. The more you know, the better, so keep learning!

I wondered if that was your property. Beautiful! We rarely see green quite that shade here in Colorado. I'm glad others in your life are supporting your dream home, in one way or the other. Out of curiosity, which log company are you going with?

Hope you have a great Thanksgiving week. It's easy to get down these days, what with all the negative news, but I'm always reminded that I have so much to be thankful for, not the least of which is my job, my family, and a great country to live in.

Have a great day!

I really like your log home photo - the one of the lincoln logs. I build log homes like that all the time with my 4 year old. :-)
