My folks used to live in Lewis.
Thanks James. I have had Pella here at my house and they are stating it is a not a window problem. i am looking into the air exchange system. Do you recommend i look to a log home builder to install or a hvac company? I am going to the Burlington VT Log Home show next weekend. Maybe i will find someone there!
Hi Jim,
Have not been on here for some time, as is obvious.
We are in the high desert, about 2 hours SE of Bend. Our property is 40 acres of sagebrush, rabbitbrush, greasewood & a 5 acre lake with approx another 8 acres in wetland. Great duck habitat, we also have nesting Sandhill cranes, pheasant & quail.
The log portion of my home is built, a 24'x26' shell. We are adding on this year, but I am not doing log construction due to no skills in that arena, as well as other things. Looking forward to having the first addition done later this year & maybe move in not too distant future.

You are very welcome.
I just came back from DE visiting family (Smyrna and Clayton). My folks used to live in Lewis...and I grew up in Claymont before I went in the service and ended up in Maine.
Hi, thinking about a 1600-1700 sq ft log house, Pine, cypress, spruce dead standing , I would like to get the longest lasting as far as having the constant staining or resealing, insect resistance,Porch on three sides. talked to a few different co. and got thier reasons for why theirs is best, A lot of the finish inside work I can do our get done through local trades, but putting up the logs seems to be something I can't find around here, Charles County Md., so far as cost have been given average of around 45-50 and labor to get under roof, Not including the metal roof was 22-25, still trying to make a decision on log type. once i decide on log type just need set of plans to turn into county to get permission to start.Single level over a basement, I'll have the basement built by local trades, porches floors to be cement. Which wood should i chose.
Hello Folks, Love the blog on square foot pricing. As a Dealer/Builder that question is usually the first one asked. I don't easily volunteer that information except to say that all log homes are custom and can vary according to the bells and whistles. We like to help them find a design so that we can give them a turnkey estimate. Our package supplies all the components needed to build up to cabinets and mechanicals. The package price reflects close to one third of total costs to build a…

Hello Everyone, I see folks saying they are talking to general contractors to get prices to build their log home. If they are not talking to a log home general contractor they are opening themselves up to all kinds of problems. Dealer/builders are the most qualified to do your project. Some dealers have general contractors that have experience with log homes who can save you money and time. You don't want your project to be a training ground for a contractor and neither does your…
