Thanks for getting in touch with me Jon. It is very much appreciated.
Let me give you a bit of background so you better understand my situation at this time. I originally designed a log home of about 2000 square feet (not counting the under house basement). Unfortunately, my house sale fell apart here in Sarasota, FL and the money for the house that I truly wanted went out the window. I am now redesigning the house to have a much smaller footprint (approximately 1700 square feet). This house too will have a full basement but will not have a second story loft area as did my original design.

I'm a carpenter and will be doing much of the inside finishing and sub contracting so what I will need from my builder is to provide the following;
Excavate, install the septic system, have the well drilled, pour the foundation (or use block or other precast system ... depending on cost), put up the building including doors and windows, close in the roof, build the interior partitions, back fill and grade as necessary.

I still have not completed the new plans but can get them to you should you be interested in talking more. They should be completed in about two weeks or earlier if I have time to sit down and draw. Detailed specs would be included.

By the way, since construction cost is such a key factor in building my house I will be looking at different exterior finish methods to come in on budget. For example, the house could be full log up to the roof line and siding the rest of the way or the entire house could be sided with heavy log siding or I would consider cedar shakes or even clapboard.

I hope I haven't overwhelmed you. If you want, you can reach me at 941-379-0545 (after 6PM) or by email, tedsanko@yahoo.com

I realize that this writing is far from complete. As it does not cover what I plan to contribute to the project, which is quite extensive. As I said, I would send to you a set of drawings as well as a fairly complete set of specs.

Can you tell me a bit more about yourself? How long in business? How close are you to Waynesville? From your web site it looks like you specialize in larger homes, would mine be too small for you? Do you have any examples of houses that you built in the Waynesville area?

Jon,

Great to get connected. Looks like you're very active on here, which is great. Trying to get caught up a little. Started out on it then just let it slip. If you visit our website, you'll see I've created a Facebook page, Twitter account and just started "Abe's Log Blog". Would love to have you as a connection on those.

Have a great day.

We broke ground last week and installed the basement walls from Superior this week. I am the GC for the house. So far things are going well. We have a really good log stacker and framer and our other subs all have experience with log homes as well.

Jon:Will do. Graham has probably forgot more about building log homes than we'll ever know. His customers as well as the other contractors that he provides technical assistance for really enjoy his company and his knowledge. We can all learn a little something from Graham - he is a real asset to Appalachian Log Structures. Good luck with your future build projects. Cheers - Donald
