What can I expect to pay for labor to have one coat of stain applied to my log home? Either by 100 sq. ft. or by the gallon.Continue

Raymond, you're right about the cost to do it yourself should factor in what you would lose if you had to take time off of work to do it. I have always thought along those lines when I had an extended project I needed to do and didn't really have the experience. I've always thought that it makes more sense to have the experienced people do these things while I just kept on doing what I do best. However, in our situation, we are semi-retired with no jobs and not much income, so it made sense for us to do it ourselves. I think many folks who are building log homes are retired and find it challenging to work on it themselves. You do need to be careful when hiring someone to do the work for you. Check references. Unfortunately, many are taken advantage of. I have heard some terrible stories of folks bad experiences. In our community here in NW Arkansas, we have wonderful neighbors and we all help each other with our building projects. We feel really blessed in that regard.

Hi Larry, I've grown weary with the square foot thing. Any time you apply preservative and seal joints and seams on logs there is always prep work and lots of climbing.Material and labor are added up at the completion of the job and divided by the square footage,if that means something to you. What really matters is the results and the final price. I have never power washed a log home that needed refinishing and caulking. Spraying water under pressure on logs with cracks and joints defies logic. Spraying with a good cleaner or diluted bleach and hosing with a garden hose is less harmful. If that is insufficient then consider cob or glass blasting. Good luck,  Jim and Pam Katahdin Cedar Log Homes
