Hi, we have a shingle roof and aluminum gutters with aluminum gutter guards. So far they have worked great. I dont think the type of roof would matter but I am not an expert. The guard is slightly past the lip of the roof and is attached to the gutt…
Hi - Some good advise has been given - but depending on the size of the home you have in mind to build, I would be very concerned about a 9 month schedule in North Carolina. Many factors will come into play that will cause delays. If you are getting…
Hi, I see you have made your decision, but one area not mentioned is the slight oder from the ventless. Having been in several homes with the ventless systems, I can always detect a slight odor. Vendors say they are oderless but I dont agree.
My wife and I finished our cabin around September 2008. Its a second home for now, but things could change. The cabin in in Waynesville, North Carolina.
Hi Mike and Susan!
My husband Bob and I have a cabin near Waynesville as well, out near Bethel. It was finished about 2 years ago. Our builder went bankrupt also. Was yours by any chance American Heritage?? Luckily, our house was done. Just the furnace guy hadn't gotten paid, so we paid him the final $1500 even though we'd already paid our final draw before they folded. It could have been so much worse! We are trying to retire this year but haven't been able to sell the FL home yet (Palm Beach County) Hopefully soon!!
Hi folks, your offer to visit is very generous and if it works out we would love to meet you. We have friends who have a 150 year old log cabin in Clyde and we visit them at least once a year. This year we plan to be there in September but as yet we do not have a finalized date. We usually spend about a week with them. I see that you are from Orlando. If you have visited my site you will see that we are from Sarasota and our friends are from Nokomis. (see the pics of their cabin on my home page). They spend half the year in Florida and the other half in NC. Let me give you my email address if you would rather contact us that way: tedsanko@yahoo.com.
I take it that the pictures you posted are of the house that Mark built for you.
It is beautiful but you already know that. Although there are a few similarities to the house we want to build I believe that your house is much larger. Our plans are to build a log home of about 2300 square feet plus future basement.
Anyway, we look forward to hearing from you and if you don't mind I will send your regards to Mark and Tori.
Hi guys, I just happened to run across your site through conversations I have been having with Shelly S. We too have property near Waynesville. You might know Coleman Mountain Rd.off of Jonathan Creek Rd. We are in a community called Maple Springs. Are you anywhere near there? I saw some references to a Mark who is a builder in the area. Could this be Mark Benitez? If so I am currently working with him to give me an estimate to build a log home for me. If this is the same Mark can you give me some idea as to how he is to work with. What are your general impressions of his work? Your thoughts and feelings would be a great help to me.
Hi Mike and Susan! Good to hear from you. Yes, we were able to meet with Mark, see some of the homes he's built (including his personal home - very nice!!), and get a lot of questions answered. He seems to know his stuff. With the network of people he works with, he may be able to save us some money on our overall project, as well. He didn't see a problem building the home we want on our lot & within our budget range. He's now working on a detailed estimate and should be getting back to us within the next couple of weeks. Thanks, again for the referral!!!
Hi folks - well were able to empty alot of the boxes but ran out of time before we had to come back to Florida. Thought we would send some pictures of the finished areas as they are now. Will have window treatments installed on next trip up.
The contractor is working on the few remaining punch list items and has just about everything fixed. There are still some boxes in the basement, so will send pictures of that area and the other rooms we are working on after they are empty of the clutter. It was a very busy 2 weeks - plan on going back in October to try to finish up the unpacking.
Sure was nice and cool at night - elevation is about 4100 feet - temperature inside never got over 75 degrees during the day - did not need the air conditioning.
Sending pictures of the great room, kitchen, dining, deck, 'School Room' and 'Bear Room' and some outside views of the cabin. Fall flowers are in bloom and some of the trees are beginning to turn a bit early this year.
Susan and Mike,
Congratulations on arriving at the "Box stage"!!! I cannot wait to see pictures - you all obviosly have fantatic taste! Our deadline has come and gone without completion, however we are looking at maybe early October for our very own box stage! Just in time for the holidays! Keep us all posted! Anne
Fabulous home! I love the little details - the door, the handles - the simple but elegant staircase the "tree" support, and the fireplace. please post more pictures once you get settled in. Thanks - Dee
I circled the area where the pipe came down. The box is above the cabinet in the corner. Basically, the carpenter just boxed in between the beam to cover the pipe. It would have been better not to have the box, but with the plumbing placement there was not any other alternative.
