Can I restain using Olympic that is now oil formula when original was water based?

My log cabin was originally stained 3 years ago with Sierra water based Olympic stain and seal.   But now the product is an oil formula.   Not sure if I should use this oil based stain over my old…Continue

Nandina plant "chewed" by something??

I had a good side nandina "fire power" bush growing for last 3 years..  Suddenly this year something has been knawing at the bark and broke the plant off close to it's base.   It is in my front yard and haven't seen any animals around it.  I have a matching bush on the other side of front steps and it is fine...Any idea on what could have done this and what I can do to prevent it from getting to my 5-6 other nandina bushes??See More

"Give it a light color. Light colors make the room looks bigger and brighter. I would suggest for cream or a light green color."

"Why don't you cover it with tongue and groove knoty pine its not that expensive its about .50 to .70 cents a foot. That would look great."

I have a great room which is open with Living room, dining area and kitchen.  I have two large gable windows.  My problem is that I have beautiful pine wood log walls up to the 8-10 ft mark and then it has been drywalled and painted white up thru the gable windows and ceiling...   Is there a good color to paint this area of drywall above the logs so as not to contrast so drastically?  I don't think I will be able to afford covering it in wood panels for now.there are some pictures of the…See More

I still live in So. FLA. but have built a log cabin in western NC. It is now two years old and feeling like a comfortable second home. Even the birds and deer are comfortable around the cabin.

Leaks around gable windows

Has anyone been dealing with gable windows not being installed/ sealed properly and, when it rains hard, water leaks in at base of gable windows?

Pat that snow was in january 2011.We put our jacuzzi on the deck so all the neighbors can enjoy the gazebo too.We are not far from you. All the fall creek land developements are so pretty we have driven through yours many times.

I'm not sure how all this invite/friends stuff works but, we own land in Grandview Peaks. We are in the process of talking with different builders to get ballpark prices as to what it may cost. Can I ask who did your house? Any issues? We own lot 269 off Scenic Vista Drive. Where are you in the neighborhood? Pat, I just logged onto loghome u after a long time away and I noticed your 2 questions. Don't think I answered them??? If not, SO SORRY!! The cabinets were built by a friend of our builder who lives in the Upper Peninsula of Mich. I'll have to ask him the name. We used a Hickory stain on it. On the interior finish of our log home - we used a natural honey - almost clear like finish from Sashco. In retrospect, I think I wish I went slightly darker. Hope this helps.
