Nandina plant "chewed" by something??

I had a good side nandina "fire power" bush growing for last 3 years..  Suddenly this year something has been knawing at the bark and broke the plant off close to it's base.   It is in my front yard and haven't seen any animals around it.  I have a matching bush on the other side of front steps and it is fine...Any idea on what could have done this and what I can do to prevent it from getting to my 5-6 other nandina bushes??See More

I still live in So. FLA. but have built a log cabin in western NC. It is now two years old and feeling like a comfortable second home. Even the birds and deer are comfortable around the cabin.
Are you lucky enough to be living in a log home?

Leaks around gable windows

Has anyone been dealing with gable windows not being installed/ sealed properly and, when it rains hard, water leaks in at base of gable windows?

I'm not sure how all this invite/friends stuff works but, we own land in Grandview Peaks. We are in the process of talking with different builders to get ballpark prices as to what it may cost. Can I ask who did your house? Any issues? We own lot 269 off Scenic Vista Drive. Where are you in the neighborhood? I don't know if this is the right place to ask questions directly without posting to everyone. Thanks for the invite. Red and Donna

Pat, I just logged onto loghome u after a long time away and I noticed your 2 questions. Don't think I answered them??? If not, SO SORRY!! The cabinets were built by a friend of our builder who lives in the Upper Peninsula of Mich. I'll have to ask him the name. We used a Hickory stain on it. On the interior finish of our log home - we used a natural honey - almost clear like finish from Sashco. In retrospect, I think I wish I went slightly darker. Hope this helps. Please contact me w/ any other questions.
