Hi Mike,
Actually, I do sell to Mass. Expanding my market for construction to Mass soon too. Taking the Construction Supervisor License test in a few weeks.
I sell and build Moosehead Cedar Log Homes. Look at a lot of different companies, I chose…
Hi Mike,
I'm not a dealer/builder for Real Log homes, I represent a different company. But I think the best way to tell is how responsive that rep is to your initial inquires, how fast they answer your questions and in my opinion, the most importan…
Hi Neighbor,
Don't see many people from CT on here.
I think if you can go with cedar it would be a wise choice. While Alan is right, all log homes do require maintenance. I've seen pine logs require a bit more on the staining side. You get more bl…
All companies that use a D-log use the strip and caulk. It's necessary to keep out air infiltration.
Have you looked at white cedar logs at all? I'm not a big fan of pine. For a little more $, you can upgrade to cedar and have less maintenance.
Either is fine but what is more important is what you are most comfortable with.
I was just pointing out that with fixed cost the GC may not want you to control payments to subs based on his agreements with them or his own pricing structure. Don't…
Mat,
This should have been handled in your contract with your GC. I assume by your wording that this is not a bank loan. It also depends on whether you are building with a fixed cost contract or cost plus contract.
If you have a fixed cost contrac…
Maybe where you live but labor is higher, burgers are higher and fuel is higher than just two years ago here in CT. Plus you are going to have a hard time finding somewhere to mill and cut logs here as well.
Well, perhaps I am misinformed. From reading the magazine ads, I concluded that log for log, cedar was considerably more expensive. How much less maintenance is there with cedar? How much choice would I have in stain color with cedar vs pine? I know the advantages against termites, and that you can skip the anti-infestation pre-treatment. Thanks for sharing. Hey-we'd build in RI if we could find a really small, rural town.
Hi CT neighbor. I gather that you sell or build log homes? Our new year's resolution will be to purchase land this year, but don't know where that will be. We're open- looking for someplace really quiet within 300 miles of Hartford. I want to be 40 minutes from a mall and 15 minutes to a medium-size grocery store, and 30 minutes from a college. We have visited Beaver Mtn log homes, and like True North's construction system the best. We are in the dead center of CT. Where are you?
Yes I have the blueprints. What do you mean by giving me prices off the plan? Are you talking about pricing materials (logs, doors, windows, flooring and whatever else was in the kit)"? I was told I could not use the plans to have cabin built unless I bought thier kit. Or are you talking about pricing stacking the logs thru the felt and site work, well septic?
I have looked into Moosehead, Ward, and Katahdin via their websites. Moosehead seems to have the most variety available for log profiles, so they are at the top of my list so far. I found a few other Maine log companies, but these three seem to be the best in terms of longevity and reputation. I have also discovered that there is a local handcrafter in Brownfield, Maine, who has built several traditional-style full log homes in the area.
I appreciate your input.
