There is no way I can let my wife see this photo. She'll drag me off to find a new puppy, and we already have enough animals! Very cute puppy Shelley! Congratulations on the new addition to the family :)

Heh - thanks for the comment on the picture. That was from last Halloween. It was a total throw-together-at-the-last-minute costume that consisted of a black shirt with wide masking tape giving me stripes, the glasses and bat antenna. So I was a b...

I think you spoke to soon Michael! It's dull and rainy today, and certainly reminds me of fall. But all this rain will be good for the plants (and my allergies!), not to mention helping us out of this drought. And speaking of droughts, all the pe...

Is it me, or does anyone else see rainbows? Regardless, that looks quite cozy and rustic. A nice refreshing change from the mammoth log homes with cathedral ceilings 40 feet up!

New Years Resolution

Like most everyone else, I'm making some resolutions this year. The perennial favorite, losing weight, is right up there at the top but I'm going to make it a "get healthy in spirit, mind and body" resolution.

I plan on doing more creative work that I enjoy; writing, photography and music.

And finally, I'm going to start my Log Home Workbook. Never too early to start planning! For Christmas I received a Log Home Living subscription, so I'll be cutting floorplans, articles and pictures out of t… Continue

Chantilly Log Home Show Recap

Sunday morning was a good time to go to the Log Home show... when I went it was practically dead, which meant I didn't have to fight the crowds to look at the stuff I wanted to look at. I meandered from display to display, taking my time, and not being jostled or having people step in front of me.

It also meant that I got to spend time talking with the fine folks that run this neighborhood, without competing with others for their attention! I spent a lot of time talking with Donna and Sara, as… Continue

Log Home Show in Chantilly

The Log Home and Timber Show is just around the corner! At least, for those in the Northern Virginia area. Anyone planning on going? (I would expect to see the Log Home U staff there - it's all of what, a mile from your offices? ;-) Anyone want to meet n' greet and say howdy to your fellow Log Home Neighbors?

Chantilly Log and Timber Home Show Information

I plan on bringing my camera - so be prepared to have your picture taken and y… Continue

Splinter

We all love wood. If we didn't we wouldn't be living (or wanting to live) in log homes. I imagine many of you, like myself, love the look, the texture and the smell of wood. From homes to furniture to small accessories, wood is part of our daily lives.

Well...what about a car made from wood? And not just any old, run-of-the-mill car, but a supercar, something that belongs next to the Lamborghinis, Ferrari's and Bugatti's of this world?

Joe Harmon designed and is building such a car - it's call… Continue

Autumn in the air

It's this kind of weather that makes me really appreciate living in Northern Virginia. I grew up in Arizona, and while a good part of it was in Flagstaff (which sits at 7,000 feet above sea level and does see its share of snow) there really wasn't the changing of the seasons that we get here.

As I rode the motorcycle in this morning, I was glad I had the full-face helmet on. It was definitely chilly! Now, in the early afternoon, it's gorgeous. Knowing the seasons are about to change (no, not ba… Continue

What's going on?? Great seeing you at the Show today. It was a shame people kept coming through the door (ok, so I guess technically we should be happy about that). But to be honest, I'm pretty happy I made it home in time for the Steelers game (a win would be a nice end to a very good weekend for Pennsylvania!) Also, let's figure out a happy hour time sometime soon?? Take it easy -

Thanks! The log cabin idea was mine at first, but my husband is now, i think MORE enthusiastic than I am. I got a little daunted when I realized how many decisions we would have to make.

OK - you watching the game at home did not work. Superstition is a funny thing: My husband and I have been going to one or two games a year for about 10 years. The Redskins lost every game we went to for about the first seven years and then we started taking our kids with us. We haven't been to one losing game since then. We end up spending so much more on the extra two tickets, but are afraid to leave the kids at home! Now I guess we need to make room for you, too :) Taks care - Anne
