A dog made for winter

How has winter been treating you this season? We've been pummeled in northern Michigan. In the area where our log home is located, we are well over 150 + inches of total snowfall.  Today was -26 degrees! Ouch! Our Bernese Mountain Dog named Scout is loving it.  I have to practically pick her up to carry her into the house because she doesn't want to come inside.  Me? I'm ready for Spring.  Bring it!…

Autumn in Michigan

Time for an Autumn check. Northern Michigan is at 50% peak right now so I should have better photos in the upcoming weeks. Is there anything better than a log home decorated w/ fall leaves and pumpkins?! I think not! Here's what it's looking like in our neck of the woods. How about yours? (P.S. I have found I cannot buy enough pumpkins to decorate our log home. My hubby is grumbling that I am turning our place into a pumpkin patch. Ha!)…

Great moments at the cabin

Having a great summer so far at our log home. It's been 3 years, the projects don't end but the wondrous moments continue including seeing a fox for the 1st time and having my Loons return to our lake. I've shared some photos below. What is happening at your log home?…

Log Home Christmas

I'm looking forward to heading up north to spend Christmas in our log home! The place is decorated! Two feet of snow is already on the ground in northern Michigan! I've made tons of homemade treats! Which reminds me, have any you checked out www.allrecipes.com ? Great site! I just made some Amish Caramel Corn the other day that came out fabulous. I'm also making homemade banana sourcream bread and chocolate pretzel sticks. Are you making… Continue

Autumn at the Log Home

This is my favorite time of year at our log home. Crunchy, colorful leaves, bonfires w/ marshmallows, and pumpkins all over the deck. I don't know of any other home that looks better in the fall season than a log home. Here's what it looks like right now in my neck of the woods. (How does it look by you?)…

I'll do that Shelly. She's got the body of a Basset and the color of the retriever. My wife and I adopted her from the Humane Society in Oct/2007. The following summer somebody "dumped" a Basset Hound about 2 miles north of where we live. I took him in and the two have been buddies since! Their names are Sherman and Libby. Short for General Sherman and Liberty. Their my hiking and fishing buddies. Nothing but farmland and woods to roam in.

I'll get pictures of both when the weather breaks and share with all.

Shelley, haven't been on loghomeu for quite sometime. Been busy with both homes, but I love how your dog has grown.  Would like to have a dog like Scout. We have a little yorkie, so I don't know how she would appreciate that. She rules the both homes.  HaHa. Is this type of dog easy to care for? Thanks. CJ from Va.

Shelley I enjoyed looking at the pictures of your log cabin, i hope to some day to have one.  I noticed you have the hole logs, I was wondering if you have much trouble with dust on the logs of the inside. I really like the whole log look. The cabin is very nice and pretty. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!! Alice

You must hate to leave it! Are you planning on one day, living there full time?

Well Shelley, I best be off and get ready for the storm....I have some Mums and pumkins outside that need to come in....I want to hold them for as long as I can...still have Thanksgiving to enjoy!!  You folks have a grand day and enjoy life at the cabin!!!

Hi Shelley! I'm glad you liked our cabin. I looked at your pics, and I'm jealous! Your fall & winter views are gorgeous! I miss the extreme colors of fall, and I wouldn't mind a little more snow once in awhile. I really liked your half-log stairs, and the little decorative details around the cabin.

Take care, and enjoy your spring!

Hey Shelley,

We only have one Pyr, but we have been a foster home to one other one. Our Lilly Belle is now about 105 lbs. She's about normal for her size and sex.

How big is that 'puppy' of yours now?

I just looked at your pictures. What did you have your kitchen cabinets done in...hickory, pine? They blend so well with the pine logs. what company did you use and what were they called? Thanks, Pat

Shelly: My vacation log home is in western NC. Doing most of interior work myslef. Do you know what is best to seal the interior logs? what about my pine window trim...it seems lighter than my log walls. if I just seal with urethan, they may stay different in color.
Help - any advise?
