Hi Agnes, We can offer this too at Expedition Log Homes. When we do a "logs only" package it's typically any or all log components that you need for your home, meaning the logs, structural tie beams, log rafters, safety rail system, etc. Are you p...

I am a log home representative for Expedition Log Homes. I can't think of anything better than helping others with their log home dream as well as talking about log homes everyday! If I can help you, please contact me!

Dog in a Log

It took me 4 years, 6 months and 2 days to convice the hubby that we needed a dog. Once we finished our log home last year, I told him it wasn't complete without a "log dog" - his answer "what about our log cat?" No worries - Marvin the cat is still loved (and he LOV… Continue

Things I did right and things I would change in our log home...

I think one of the things that helped us with designing our log home was asking current log home owners what they were glad they did with their log home and if there was anything they would change if they could go back. I love my log home but still, knowing what I kno… Continue

Log Cabin Neighbors

Our log cabin is our vacation home (a.k.a. 2nd home) in northern Michigan. For those of you not familiar with Michigan terms, if you are NOT from northern Michigan and you VISIT northern Michigan - then you are a Fudgie (cuz tourists like to buy fudge on Mackina… Continue

Proof my cat owns our log home!

Marvin the cat loves our trips up to our log home as much as we do! Seriously. If you saw how well he behaved in the cat carrier (no violent banging against the sides!) - you would believe me. But I have noticed that he has claimed ownership of our log home. I submit the following as proof!

Here Marvin is inspecting the logs with his teeth. Yep! Good enough for him!

Hi Shelley - doing fine but have been real busy with work - etc. The dog is precious! You'll have her in less than a week! Can't wait to read her stories.

Shelly,

I don't know if the 3 hours is worth it yet, as there is nothing on the property yet. I used to pipe dream about it more, when I first bought it, but now until it becomes a reality it's hard to visualize how it will be to go up and use it as intended. Patience rewards those who wait...

I bought the property as 3 hours is about the max I think I could tolerate. A friend has a home close to 5 hours and that just adds quite a bit more.

Curious, how often do you use your cabin? Do you have broadband and/or can you work from your cabin?

Regards,
Alan

Thanks so much. We were looking at all you photos last night and your house looks somewhat like ours. When we get a little further along I will post pictures and you will see what I mean. I would love to see a few more of your loft - I was getting worried that we won't have much walking room but it is very much like yours. Thanks.

Ah, red pine...I hadn't thought about that...was thinking they were white. Looks very similar, the knots have a very similar look to them. I love the large dark knots that pine has. Red obviously is very similar to white. Your house looks wonderful. The pics you share are wonderful, and many are just classic. BTW, saw your comments and pic on the last page of the new Kozy Cabin's issue from Country Log Homes.

I haven't done too much work in the past week, shop wise. Spent most time traveling up to my property (3 hours away from my house, similar to you...I'm sure you can relate) to meet with an arborist and trying to finalize the plans so I can have the structural engineer do his magic...

I am headed back to West Virginia next week to work on some of the log work.

Cheers,
Alan

What a nice place you have. Are those pine logs? The knots look like pine knots. Great home/location.

Thanks Shelley for the comments on my blog question about which way would be the least expensive. I never realized there were log home consultants. I will try a Google search for such a critter, unless you had something in mind. And the design program sounds very interesting. If you come across the name or a program that would be suitable, please feel free to let me know. In my youth, I was trained to make that delicious fudge. Worked up on the Island for 2 seasons during my college days in the summer. May's is the best. But that is another story for another time. Your home and wildlife are very beautiful. We are going to Lawrence this weekend to visit an Expedition open house this weekend.

Thanks Shelley for the comment on our blog! We are new to this site and we have already had some neat comments and questions. We are building ours by ourselves and oh what a project. Thank goodness Mark knows about all this stuff! I have really learned a lot from him. We mostly have a great time and are very proud at the end of the day to see the progress we have made! Some still think we are crazy, but we are paying for it as we go, so we figure they won't think we are so crazy when we are finished and it's all paid for. :)
Your pictures are absolutely gorgeous! I have never been to Michigan but it looks very beautiful in the Fall! We have changing Aspens here in Colorado, but it looks like you have so many different colors! Beautiful!

Hi Shelly,
I just uploaded a few new pictures. I thought you might enjoy them. These were taken New Years week when we were on vacation up to our Camp in Eustis. The Canada Jays are really awsome birds. Hope all is well in Mich.

Shelley- Blackstar Farms cheese really is the best, and we live on 5+/-miles from them. We are just getting started on this site and will get it updated soon. Do you have any idea what the optimal humidity range is for a log home in the winter?
