Profile Information

Tell us about yourself:
My husband & I are avid outdoors people. We realized our dream of building a log home in Northern Michigan last year. For now it's our vacation home but who knows what the future will bring. We put together a blog documenting our experiences: www.logcabininmichigan.blogspot.com .

I am a log home representative for Expedition Log Homes. I can't think of anything better than helping others with their log home dream as well as talking about log homes everyday! If I can help you, please contact me!

Great moments at the cabin

Having a great summer so far at our log home. It's been 3 years, the projects don't end but the wondrous moments continue including seeing a fox for the 1st time and having my Loons return to our lake. I've shared some photos below. What is happening at your log home?

Log Home Christmas

I'm looking forward to heading up north to spend Christmas in our log home! The place is decorated! Two feet of snow is already on the ground in northern Michigan! I've made tons of homemade treats! Which reminds me, have any you checked out www.allrecipes.com ? Great site! I just made some Amish Caramel Corn the other day that came out fabulous. I'm also making homemade banana sourcream bread and chocolate pretzel sticks. Are you making an… Continue

Autumn at the Log Home

This is my favorite time of year at our log home. Crunchy, colorful leaves, bonfires w/ marshmallows, and pumpkins all over the deck. I don't know of any other home that looks better in the fall season than a log home. Here's what it looks like right now in my neck of the woods. (How does it look by you?)

Log Home Pets

I couldn't imagine having a log home without our puppy and kitty. They seem to complete our log home and make it that much more enjoyable.

Our cat Marvin loves climbing our log staircase and perching himself high in the loft as he hisses at our new Bernese Mountain puppy… Continue

Dog in a Log

It took me 4 years, 6 months and 2 days to convice the hubby that we needed a dog. Once we finished our log home last year, I told him it wasn't complete without a "log dog" - his answer "what about our log cat?" No worries - Marvin the cat is still loved (and he LOV… Continue

Hi Shelley! I'm glad you liked our cabin. I looked at your pics, and I'm jealous! Your fall & winter views are gorgeous! I miss the extreme colors of fall, and I wouldn't mind a little more snow once in awhile. I really liked your half-log stairs, and the little decorative details around the cabin.

Take care, and enjoy your spring!

Hey Shelley,

We only have one Pyr, but we have been a foster home to one other one. Our Lilly Belle is now about 105 lbs. She's about normal for her size and sex.

How big is that 'puppy' of yours now?

I just looked at your pictures. What did you have your kitchen cabinets done in...hickory, pine? They blend so well with the pine logs. what company did you use and what were they called? Thanks, Pat

Shelly: My vacation log home is in western NC. Doing most of interior work myslef. Do you know what is best to seal the interior logs? what about my pine window trim...it seems lighter than my log walls. if I just seal with urethan, they may stay different in color.
Help - any advise?

Shelly - I am such a season person - as soon as one season comes, I can't wait for the next! Of course all the catalogues with fall leaves and pumpkins aren't helping! I know you have all of your autumn decorations ready!
By the way, your loons most certainly count as a cabin essential! (LHL oct/nov2009)
