Not Just Log Homes Part 11

The Treehouse is finished and awaiting finish. The roof is an EDPM membrane, the flooring is all ERC, the logs are Honey Locust and the other members are white pine. Note the double hinged entry to the upper level. Enjoy,Tim Bullock www.tamaracklogandtimberhomes.com…See More

More than just Log Homes

We do build more than log homes....this tree was being chopped down for firewood by a tree removal service and I stopped and bought it but had no idea its' final use until I had pontificated for several months. It is a rot-free Honey Locust weighing aout 8000#s and attracts more attention than a…

Romantic Cedar aka Virginiana Juniperus

We received a call from a client requesting a replacement for a failed carved arbor that had rotted twice in the past.

He didn't want anything to do with pressure treated.

We discussed teak as a replacement although purchasing 8" X 12" teak out of old growth is really quite ghastly in expense whereas we have a native specy that does not rot nor shrink and was used for fence posts as they will last for 50 years in the ground with no treatment. Eastern red cedar is another name…

Times are a Changin'

I have been designing/building Handcrafted Log Homes for 33 years now and have seen many changes during these times and readily acccept change if it can improve my craft. Our website needed changes and this has never been a craftsmans' priority.....the Motto "build it and they will come" is no longer appropo...We needed to let people know that we can design and build to "suit" our clients needs and wants in any location in any species.

We are getting closer to that reality with our…

White Oak you say?

Tamarack Log and Timber Homes Inc. is pleased to show everyone our latest project from our native white oak. This is not for the faint of heart as this material is very costly but our client in Kentucky wanted the best rot free material for his guest cabin built in the traditional style. It is being shipped later this month and we are sad to see it go from our site. Built for a lifetime of enjoyment!  What do you think?

wow, those homes are impressive
! I'd like to see your home in Cook Forest if possible; the cabin I'm planning is simple but nice = 1200 sq feet plus or minus, and I'd like to use logs as large as possible, 16" or bigger. I think you are in Canada? So whatever meters that translates to.

that would be great to visit - I did not know you build the full scribe log homes.

I'm new to this site, not sure how it works. I have 1 acre on the Allgheny River in PA, & plan to build a cabin next year. I hope to use the full-scribe method, but have never done this before. I will need advice going forward! Thanks for your reply!

hey tim thanks for the quick reply yeah i just heard on some land i was looking at that they had alot of tamarack on the land there is it not a very good wood to use for logs? Also if someone wanted to build a handcrafted home between 1500 and 2000 sq ft how much approx would it cost to have you build it? thanks tim, rich.

Greg, I don't have the formula right in front of me.....Height of chimney in relation to the height of the ridge depends on the distance away from the ridge.
At 2:18pm on January 2, 2010, Greg Beck said…
Sorry Tim, that went from bad to worse, question being, I've always been told a homes chimney top has to be level with the ridgeline, I saw a pic in log home living were the chimney was clearly lower than the roofs ridgeline, do the rules chage between asphalt & metal roofs ? , It looked like a pro built home, Is there always a right or wrong on chimney height ?
