Happy Birthday USA

Have fun this weekend! Birthdays are supposed to be fun (…and of course, having a birthday beats NOT having one).  I like the Fourth of July, because it stirs such grand feelings.  I have so many good memories from my own childhood and my kids’ early years that remembering such moments always produces a smile and [...]

Black Bear Visits Our Log Home Today

When you live in the country you share that space with other creatures and sometimes they can get downright inquisitive.  Our log home is relatively private and wildlife is everywhere, but we’ve had our share of uninvited visitors, from mountain lions to bears, coyotes and even wild turkeys.  Just a few hours ago a black bear cub [...]

Inspired Living & Inspired Marketing

Every industry has companies that seem to do all the right things in the marketing department and the log home business is no exception.

Timber Frame - Handcrafting

Part of the appeal of handcrafted log and timber frame homes is the visible results of the handcrafters art.  Dovetail joints and mortise and tenon joinery performed on heavy timbers is a beautiful thing to behold.  As one who enjoys guiding a chisel through wood, I love watching a professional in action. Readers of this blog know [...]

What’s more American than log homes?

The unique style and splendor of modern log homes is one of the reasons this niche has risen to become one of the fastest growing segments of the home building industry.

Matt, One nice benefit of raw wood walls is that the blonde/tan tones of pine are basically neutral. Almost any color - including black, will work. My only suggestion would be to have lots of lighting... direct and indirect to help brighten the r...

Roger that!
Talk about a coincidence... living in the boonies and bears (oh my). I have a great story and I got it on video to boot! A couple of hours ago I was sitting at my desk and a black bear cub strolls by my window. I uploaded the video here, or you ca...

As I was sitting at my desk in our log home, a black bear cub strolls by my window and irritates my dog. Lilly, our Great Pyrenees pup made her displeasure known. Ahhhhhhh, life in the country is seldom dull.
DIY projects make a personal statement. There's something very special about a custom project that we create ourselves.
Seems he was trying to tell you something! Logs look in pretty good shape, with stain on them. But there is obviously some type of bug in there... I would be curious what he's finding in there, and what to look for to determine that there are so...

Profile Information

Tell us about yourself:
My bride and I share our log home with four cats (2 inside & 2 outside) and one HUGE puppy, Lilly Belle, our very Great Pyrenees.  I am the founder and editor of the Log Home Directory. I have been avidly engaged in the log home and timber frame industry for a number of years through my websites (Loghomeology, Log Furniture Directory) and blog. We have three daughters and live in NW Montana in the shadow of Glacier National Park.
Are you lucky enough to be living in a log home?
Yes
2008, the winter without end!
We LOVE winter and all that comes with it, but we also like to see the seasons change eventually. This morning (April 23rd.) we awoke to another morning of 26 degrees and a new blanket of snow.

Don't pay the ransom... I escaped!

It seems like its been about 3 years since I spent any time on this board… I cannot remember the last time I've been this busy - aren't we supposed to be sitting around doing nothing when the economy is this bad?

Spring is trying to make its way to NW Montana. This week we had a day of sunshine and 76 degrees - and the next day it snowed. Just about normal….

Oh well, time to get back to life in the fast lane in rural Montana :-)

No problems with Ravens anymore...

Okay, this post has absolutely nothing to do with log homes, and I know I'm bound to make somebody angry… BUT, as a fella who was born in Pittsburgh and has been a life-long Steeler fan…

Way to go Stillers, WAY To GO! We're off to Tampa!

Happy New Year All!

We've just said goodbye to one tumultuous year, and I for one am pleased to put that one in the history books and say good riddance! Apparently I'm not alone... The Drudge Report this morning has a headline that states, "Americans Under 70 May Find 2008 Was Their Least Favorite Year".

Before I head out to plow the drive (again)... did I mention that we have 2 feet of snow on the ground, 6" coming today, 10" more tonight and 6" for tomorrow has been forecasted? Global warming? Anyway, I spent so… Continue

Happy Thanksgiving all...

...and as he pulled out of sight, I heard him exclaim, "Happy Thanksgiving to all".

okay, okay... it's not original, but it has a catchy cadence and I'm too busy wrapping up things so that I can take some time off for the holiday... no time to think of aContinue

Ha! I know, I get comments like that all the time. It's a lot of work raising the kids. we still have four left at home. The bride wouldn't agree with you about needing sympathy though. I know you were just kidding but they are all great kids. Oops, that was a pun unintended.

Hey, I will work on posting some pics. Stay tuned. thanks for the welcome.

Hello Tom,

I noticed that you live in NW Montana. We just moved from there in 02 to Tennessee. We lived 12 miles north of Whitefish. I have lived all over Montana but that was the first time for us in NW. My wife is from here. Thanks for emailing me, Yours truly, Martin Berrow. www.lionandlamblogfurniture.com
