CJ-- A kitchen matching your description was actually chosen as the cover for the October 2010 issue of Country's Best, which hits newsstands Sept. 7: Inside, we detail how to create this effect, as well as provide another example of a dark-blue…

Hi Whitney! So nice to see you/hear from you again. My very FAVORITE Christmas tradition...which has only been for the last 3 or 4 years now...since we've been in our new home...is when the Christmas Carolers come to our house to sing. I've been di…

I grew up by Le Claire, Iowa. A small town that sits on the banks of the Mississippi in eastern Iowa. It has some history in that there used to be rapids there and specialized tug boat captains used to hire out to the paddle wheels to get them throu…

Summer Festivities

One of my favorite things about summer is all the fairs that take place during May through August. From the tiny town festivals — ours spans a small stretch of Main Street next to the old railroad station, and we have a perfect view of the Saturday fireworks from our back deck — to weeklong-plus events, there's something about wandering up and down aisles of crafts and vendors while sipping on some ridiculously large, sugary drink and nibbling on funnel cake that just feels so quintessentially s… Continue

Spinning the Color Wheel

We often get a lot of customer inquiries about the different color options used in the homes we feature, whether it's an interior paint choice, a unique stain or even a particular roofing material. It can be hard to determine what works best, especially without a handy swatch to really visualize the true color of such selections. (I know I personally went through eight samples of pale green for my kitchen alone--and that was using actual paint.) But the pros are here to help those of us in need… Continue

LogHomeU Posting Etiquette 101

As I've mentioned in previous blog entries, this network continues to be a valuable learning tool for me, both as an editor and as an individual. I love to visit to see pictures of new builds, what products are piquing people's interest and all the friendly advice exchanged in general among members. That's what this site was created for: the education and enjoyment about all things log from those who've been there (and those who want to be).

That being said, some of the comment and blog posts o… Continue

We Want to See Your Home

We feature tons of homes each year in Country's Best Log Homes, each with a unique story to tell. And although we wish we could feature every home that comes across our desk, there just simply aren't enough pages in the magazine to do so.

That being said, there is a specific group of homes that we'd like to feature more often: those of our readers. We feature a photo gallery in each issue of Country's Best Log Homes highlighting three to four homes belonging to log-home enthusiasts su… Continue

Whitney, got the copy of the "Country's Best Log Homes". Thanks for the article. When will that issue go to the news stands? I've been to our local Barnes & Noble everyday so I can buy some extra issues. I plan to frame the magazine cover and the page with the write up and put it up in our cabin.

Whitney... a warm welcome to you and your black bear... I assume that's either a bear or 'Bigfoot'. Either way, glad to have you join our community and you really should sign on to 'Log Dogs, Cats & Critters'.
