We have finally reached the point where the clay is being spread on the walls. The product from American Clay is a lovely shade of earthy green, with deep textured swirls. Fred has been tutoring Mr. Seals on how to apply it. Mr. Seals says his wife Robin wants him to re-paint their own bathroom ceiling. He is thinking of doing it with…Continue

Hi all, I'm new here and I joined because my business partner and I are trying to locate a dependable Nevada, Las Vegas area log home builder.
Just about every link I clicked shows a company out of business. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I am reading the series of articles about the Colorado water situation. They are informative, but alarming at the same time. It seems that we are following the same California experience (experiment) which chases ever more water as growth follows the flow of water. The massive aqueduct system in California sends water resources from wetter northern California to parched southern California. This is to…
Music and art are keeping my thoughts elevated this weekend. Maybe I was inspired when I looked up to see the hawk perched high in a tree at the cabin Thursday morning. No matter. The theme developed on Friday when Darien and I attended the opening of a major Picasso exhibition in Richmond, although the cabin was about the…Continue

I'm wondering if anyone has an opinion on random length log kits. I've been focusing on pre-cut kits but I'm begining to wonder if the random length kits would be something I'd be interested in. I'll be assembling the home myself so I know that it will add to my work load but if there is a substantial savings it may be worth the extra work. Has anyone built a random length kit?

The indomitable Mr. Seals felt the love and fashioned a cupid's heart for our front door out of wood and wire. I know at least one neighbor who is already coveting it. I say, get your own damn valentine.

"You're not from around here, are you?" asked Sarah. "You're not Old Richmond?" She caught me as I was leaving the cabin. She owns the property behind us, "the house with the swimming pool" she told me.

Hey everyone, just a quick update to let you know where we stand. Since our last post, we have 97% of the ceilings hung. Just waiting for a bathtub so we can hook the drain up and then finish the ceiling and a little more in the master bath.
As well, about 93% of the interior walls are hung. We've spiced things up and did some vertical and some horizontal. We think they look good and kind of break things up a little.
This weekend, we sanded all the exterior log walls in…Continue
