The Itch to Buy a Home?

Summer is almost here, and the living is...well, not so easy, right?

Those ominous economic indicators that the media speaks of have most of us trembling in our proverbial boots. We are afraid to buy an expensive dinner, much less a new home. But as a I wrote in the June issue (hitting newsstands next week), there's never been a better time to buy. That is, if you're in a position to buy.

I'm lucky enough to chat with lots of builders, financial pros and, yeah, readers,… Continue

The Hat Lady

When I took my promotion as Log Home Deisgn editor-in-chief a little more than two years ago, I knew my new post would require me to wear many hats: writer/editor (a position I was as well versed in), manager (a new one to me), keeper of the purse strings (years of household budgeting prepared me for this one) ... but emcee??? That wasn't exactly in the initial job description. Yet, at our dinner gala for the recipients of our 2nd Annual Log Home Design Awards held in Orlando on March 8, that's… Continue

Stripes Aplenty

It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I realized the extent of my love affair with stripes. I was looking around my apartment one day and suddenly noticed that every single room had something striped in it—a potholder in the kitchen, an area rug in the living room, a lampshade in the bedroom. I'm not sure what it is that draws me to stripes (perhaps my mom dressed me in a lot of striped clothing as a kid?), but they always seem to project a cheerful vibe. Plus, they're an easy pattern to… Continue

the things I do for logs....

I'm not the best flyer.

Actually, that's an understatement. I hate everything about flying. From the moment I step foot in the airport to the time I grab my bags at my final destination, I'm basically a complete wreck. Sleeping on the plane? Not an option. Reading a book? Not possible. Even my go-to guilty pleasure (trash mags, packed with celebrity gossip) can't keep me occupied. In fact, the entire time on the plane I can only focus on one thing: Landing.

With that said,… Continue

Fun and Easy Home Decor Projects—Just Add Mom

It's been my burden to bear all of my life—I'm the daughter of a crafts maven, whereas I break out in hives at the thought of glitter glue and macaroni art. So you could say my mom was a bit doubtful when I told her that I wanted to create a series of do-it-yourself craft projects for the readers of Log Home Design. And her eyebrows raised a bit higher when I added that they should be fun, easy, affordable and elegant.

But, being… Continue
