Rustic Living in a Wisconsin Log Home

A Wisconsin home proves that half-logs are better than none.

Most people who choose half-log homes do so to modify the log look, usually with drywall. Not so for the owners of this home, located on 6.2 acres with 250 feet of lake frontage in northwestern Wisconsin. They wanted wood from floor to ceiling and in between. A support post for the…

Our Timber Block Wall-Raising is in 15 Days

I didn't think we'd ever get to this point, but the wall-raising of our Timber Block home is just 15 days away, on June 21st.  While I say "I didn't think we'd ever get to this point," in truth we've moved relatively quickly.

Last year we purchased 19 acres of land on top of a bluff in Wisconsin's Driftless Area, a region of tall bluffs and deep river valleys in the southwest part of the State.  We're nearly at the confluence of the Wisconsin and Mississippi Rivers.

The difference between price and cost

Blog Post written by Dave Janczak (founder/owner of Wisconsin Log Homes)

Like most of us, I learned at an early age that ‘you get what you pay for.' I remember trying to save a few bucks on my first car; it sure looked good, but it spent most of its time in the mechanic shop getting repaired. After having it fixed and putting more and more money into it, I probably could have just bought a brand new car and not had all the future… Continue

Golden Eagle Log Homes helps sponsor a charity event for those affected by cancer

I recently received this press release about how Golden Eagle Log Homes donated its showcase home for a charity event to help ease the burden of those affected by cancer. It does my heart good to know that we're involved with such a thoughtful industry, so I had to share. I hope anyone who's in the Wisconsin region (or those willing to travel for an excellent cause) is able to attend. - Donna

Choosing Exterior Finishes

Proudly beaming in both sun and moonlight, the quintessential log home is an expression of a homeowner’s unique and personalized lifestyle. From a ski resort to mountain lodge to a cabin on the river, your home is a ray of life, extending its welcoming hand out to greet guests and welcome you home. Directing the experience to be either relaxed or stately, the exterior of your home is often the first thing considered before committing to a certain… Continue

Planning Outdoor Spaces

Increasingly popular, outdoor living spaces can offer additional usable exterior square footage, protection from the heat, cold and precipitation, and even help manage heating and cooling on the interior of your home. And of course, they are a natural fit for rustic homes, typically blending the architecture of the home with natural elements and the topography of the lot.

The choices available today can seem overwhelming, however, by narrowing them down and really designing these… Continue
