The Log Home Neighborhood

An online (log home) community for log home enthusiasts.

brightly colored leafThat is, show me the MONEY when it comes to YOUR photography...

Here's the idea: A photo contest! Now that most of the country is blessed with fall foliage painted in lovely hues of red, orange and rust, let's share those images with everyone in this community before the leaves fly. (And, if you haven't had a chance yet, check out Shelley's post where she shares the view from her log home - very inspirational!)

Simple rules, cool prize:

1. Grab your camera: (Gently, of course----hey, you paid good money for it), photograph some fall foliage OR any shots/vignettes (pumpkin patch, hay rides, etc.) that convey a sense of this wonderful season. Make it memorable.

2. Post the photo here: (You guessed it, one photo per community member. We don't want a budding Ansel Adams to flood the site and tip the scales in his or her favor.) And by "post the photo here" we literally mean right in this blog post. Reply to the post with an upload of your best work!

3. Vote for your favorite: We're all about the democratic process in this community (well, most of the time), so each community member can vote for his or her favorite photo once. DO NOT vote until November 4. Then, on election day or any time until November 7, vote for your favorite image by emailing me at mmccarthy@homebuyerpubs.com. Please type "Photo Contest Voting" in the email's subject heading.

4. Ah, the important part: The winner gets a brand new, shiny, eager-to-please Black & Decker Leaf Hog, which is sitting next to my desk as I write this. It's an almighty leaf-and-debris blower, perfect for fall or any time of year. I own one of these myself, and I can honestly say it's the one item in my shed I'd save during a fire...well, right after my hip-waders.

5. Technical questions: (That is, if you have problems posting your photo here), please contact our Neighborhood Host. Or, send a direct email to: andrew@loghome.com

Let's the photography begin!

All the best,

Mike McCarthy

Great idea Mike! Hopefully that fall photo i just posted wasn't my best...I'm on the hunt this weekend for a better one. Let's see, I have a 1 in 743 (# of members today) shot in winning....good odds!

This photo was taken on the aerial tram at Pipestem State Park in West Virginia last weekend. The tram drops you over 1000 ft. into the gorge to the Bluestone River (seen in the photo) at the bottom.

We still have one to two weeks here before the color comes. We had a lot of rain this last while and I guess that is suppose to bring more color out but it will be very hard to top Shelley's picture. That is nature at its best.

This is a photo of two seagulls that were flying across Bradford Lake in Gaylord, Michigan. I liked how they were following each other and contrasted against the red & gold fall trees.

This photo is a 'peek' at our cabin from across the lake. This area is wooded, but swampy 'wetlands'. We have to balance across downed trees to get through this area. This is in Harrison, Michigan.

This photo is of our log home and the Virginia Dogwood that has turned a dark rich crimson for the fall with bright red berries. We began building in the spring when the tree had a few flowers left. In order to save the Dogwood, we were able to turn the house sideways with approval from the county.

Photo of Lake Junaluska and foliage taken on a recent trip to Waynesville in Western North Carolina. Due to a dry spell the reds are not as vivid this year as in years past. But, still a beautiful lookout!

Here's a photo taken in September 2008 near the Upper Valley of Red River, NM. Our cabin is in the area.
