don't overlook the benefits of a smart & efficient passive solar design to compliment all the other green attributes you plan on incorporating into your dream home. Take your time and do the research. Good luck!
Also - be sure to take the time to talk directly with referalls you get from builders and suppliers - see what people would have done different, if at all.

happy stacking!

We have been in the process for a while now building a Green Log Home. there are many things to consider when going green without spending all the green you have in the process. My wife and I have created a website to help everyone find information on the subject. finding it is simple, http://www.greenloghome.com. there are no advertisements, just information to help you make informed decisions.

Congrats! on thinking green. Have you considered a rainwater cistern to flush your toilets? You can also have the sink (kitchen, bath, shower) drain out your house, through a filter, and use it on your plants/garden. Saw this idea on the new tv channel Planet Green. We will build a green log home in about 2 years. I'll watch your postings. Hopefully, there will be a real big movement and that's all anyone will ever think about building. :)

In the tradition of "Mother Earth News" and the "Last Whole Earth Catalog", this fellow has lived 15 years off the grid and says he can show you how to build homemade wind generators and save thousands in the process. He also offers information on installing solar panels and running your generator on bio-diesel and other renewable energy solutions.... might be worth a read. I have not personally used his recommendations yet, but they seem to make a lot of sense. See off grid living and energy solutions here...

Congratulations - and good luck! It's great to hear about such an environmentally-minded endeavor.

I'm sure the folks around here will have plenty of wonderful resources for you in the area of green building. In the meantime: Here's a collection of green building articles from Log Home Living and Log Home Design.
