Cleaning and restaining your log home

I recently purchased a log home back in August, and I need to wash and re-seal the logs.  I am looking for a safe and environmentally friendly logwash and sealant.  I am new to all this and would love some advice.  The companies that I have contacted to come out and do it basically told me it would be more cost effective for me to do it myself... where do I start?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

I recently did my log home and used 'Sikens' products.  I cant speak highly enough how happy I am with the results. Their 3 step process of 2 coats of stain/sealant and a final topcoat sealant has sealed the logs so well, its almost like the house is wrapped in a shell, nothing gets past that topcoat!

I am in the middle of this same process myself. After considerable research both online and in person I chose to use Perma-Chink products. They have an excellent informed staff who can provide you with all of the info you will need to do a great job that will last for years. I also attended a seminar they conducted. The seminar provided a wealth of info.

Good Luck with your project!
