WE ARE GETTING READY TO BUILD OUR LOG HOME IN TENNESSEE AND I AM CURIOUS ABOUT A CONTRACTOR'S LICENSE. WOULD IT BE WORTH MY TIME TO OBTAIN A LICENSE AND IF SO, HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING IT. IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ME AN IDEA OR SUGGESTION PLEASE LET ME KNOW. WE HAVE STARTED WITH OUR CONCRETE AND STEM WALL AND HAVING A GREAT TIME. CAPT. LARRY

Larry I am a NC General Contractor. Most states allow a home owner who is going to live in the home for at least 2-3 yrs to act as a GC. Taking your state exam with no background could be quite difficult. While I feel this is a great option I do caution you that it also can be disaster if you don't have the time, knowledge, & patience to work with contractors. Many homes are never finished or go way over budget from lack of experience. Good luck. Scott
