The Log Home Neighborhood

An online log home community for log home enthusiasts.

Besides spending time decorating the heck out of our log home, I've been trying to do more crafty things since the holidays are fast approaching. I enjoy bird watching and seeing all the different birds that come to visit us. I decided my birds needed their own "edible" christmas tree and decorated a pine tree on our property w/ strung cranberry and popcorn as well as the famous pine cone feeders (smeared w/ peanut butter and rolled in seeds.)

For the pine cones feeders - gather some large pine cones. If they are not fully opened yet, then place them on a foil lined baking sheet and "bake" them at 250 degrees for approx. 10-15 minutes until they open. Keep a close eye on them! Then smear unsweetened peanut butter w/ a rubber spatula in a circular, smooth motion. Leave room at the top for the hanger. Then roll your pine cone in a plate filled w/ seeds - I prefer the mixed seed/fruit variety - it looks prettier! Then attach a pipe cleaner (or some string) at the top to create a hanger - and then voila - hang on your tree! My chickadees and blue jays loved this! (See below!)

Project #2 - I had a Christmas Card made out of a photo I took of our log home. If you go to www.123print.com - you can choose from a variety of framing and greeting styles. I found their prices to be very reasonable!

I have more projects coming up - painting bird houses, making personalized christmas cd's for guests, baking, etc. What projects are you working on? Please share - and the more photos the better!!

Hi Mitch & Rene Jones,

This is really creative. I am sure the birds and the squirrels love this!

Every year for Christmas we make houses/villiages out of graham crackers, a few years ago I used stick pretzels instead and after they have served their purpose as decorations we cover them in birdseed and put them outside. it can be funny watching the birds and squirrels fighting over the houses.
