Hello, All: My husband and I will be retiring to the Asheville,NC area in 2020. Granted,we have a few years yet, but we are still in the planning/dreaming stage. I have wanted to live in a log cabin for as long as I can remember. However, the more research I do,the more i discover potential maintenance issues that come with log cabin ownership. Is anyone familiar with the vinyl wood siding used for some cabins? What about any log home communities that provide maintenance programs? What is the usual cost for hiring out the maintenance in that area? Thank you, Mary.

To hire out the maintanence, figure approximately $.30 per square ft. of exterior, per year. To do it yourself figure half of that.
Timber Frame would be an other option for your vinyl, or hardie board siding, mixed in with stone of course. With this option, you can always still do wood accents, such as exterior timber trusses ect.
