The Log Home Neighborhood

An online log home community for log home enthusiasts.

My wife and I have decided on the "corner/log style" of our log home. We like the saddlenotch style because it starts with a full log all the way around the foundation instead of 2 full logs and 2 half logs to begin the initial course of logs. It's just a cleaner look in our eyes.

Gastineau, Honest Abe and Appalachian Log Structures offer such a corner. All are members of the Log Home Council which is important to me (us).

Is anyone aware of any other manufacture that offers such a corner/log profile?

It's not a deal breaker if they don't offer that corner/log style but really lean toward that. I say that because I like Hochstetler Log Homes and Strongwood. I visited Hochstetler in Sept/2012 during log cabin days and have found they are a quality company with a great owner: Levi Hochstetler. I have visited Gastineau also and Lynn Gastineau is tops! I plan on visiting the other mentioned manufactures.

Hi Mike,

Your right, the corner notch does affect the appearance of your new log home quite a bit.  We're a log home company out of BC, Canada and have been building since 1973.  Also board members of the International Log Homes Association and the BC Association.

We build all our log homes by hand with large diameter logs.  Take a look at our corner notches we offer.  One is the saddle notch the other is a diamond notch with cedar flared ends.  Let us know what you think.
