The Log Home Neighborhood

An online log home community for log home enthusiasts.

I couldn't imagine having a log home without our puppy and kitty. They seem to complete our log home and make it that much more enjoyable.

Our cat Marvin loves climbing our log staircase and perching himself high in the loft as he hisses at our new Bernese Mountain puppy Scout. Scout loves the outdoors (what dog doesn't) and has been trying to become friends with the local wildlife - chipmunks, red squirrels, black squirrels and the birds. So far none of them have taken her up on her offer. I won't mention the baby turtle I found in her mouth the other day...... YUCK!!

I already have a vision in my head for this winter (don't anyone groan now!) - romping in the snow with Scout (the Bernese breed love the snow) and then sitting in front of the fireplace w/ the cat on my lap and the dog at my feet. It doesn't get any better than that. Oh wait - then the hubby brings me a tall cup of hot chocolate! Now it's complete.

P.S. I have found some cute log cabin items for pets at Black Forest Decor - log dog beds, twig pet feeders, etc. Here's the link http://search.blackforestdecor.com/search?vwcatalog=newportantiques...

Tom - ha,ha! I always love when the word "loon" can be incorporated into a conversation!
Robert - great photo! It's probably cooler under the porch for your precious pooch! :-)

I would imagine that Scout would have to be "crazy as a loon" to tangle with Marvin... sorry, I couldn't resist. Cute critters ya got there Shelley.

Anne - Scout loves Marvin the cat - however Marvin is not impressed! Ha,ha!!

Alan - exactly! I've heard my cat hiss for the 1st time in my life - yikes!

Hi Rita - thanks for that Loon article - very interesting! My loon pair that I'm monitoring this summer only had 1 chick survive but he's thriving. I'll have to post a pic for you soon!

I agree with Alan..........."What is THAT doing here"?!

Also, your beloved loons. I noticed this article today in the Helena, Mt. newspaper:

Biologists study loons in Montana
By The Associated Press - 07/27/2009

HELENA (AP) — Biologists studying the loon in Montana say they're the grizzly bear of the bird world.

Gael Bissell with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks says the birds are long-lived and reproduce slowly, just like grizzlies.

Mike Gurnett with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks says over the last 10 years, Montana has had 62 pairs of breeding loons, which have fledged 41 chicks each year.

A loon is about the size of a Canadian goose, but with a smaller wingspan.

How about that Shelley, grizzly bear of the bird world!!! Awesome, carry on Loon Ranger!!!

Cheers.......

I love the look that Marvin is giving Scout - If he could talk, what would he be saying, do you suppose? They both look very content at the cabin!
