Well the logs finally arrived on site this week. On day one, they got everything laid out and the first course down. That was Tuesday. It rained all day on Wednesday, so needless to say, there was no action, unless you were a duck!
Day two was picture perfect. Bright and sunny and lots of fluffy clouds. The crew was doubled up today, and they made much progress. By the end of the day, they had 8 courses of logs stacked. It's really starting to look like something. You can see where the windows and doors will be, and having the walls is starting to give the house some dimension, so we can envision how big the rooms are going to be and what not. I expect things will slow down somewat tomorrow, as they need to notch logs for the top of the windows and will be nearing the second floor height.
Take a peak at our pictures we posted. Got some nice shots of the action. While we are overjoyed at the start of log stacking, unfortantely it has been a difficult couple of days.
Please take a moment and keep my brother-in-law's family in your prayers. He lost his brother on Tuesday in Afghanistan. He will forever be a hero to us. He died protecting our freedoms and our way of life. Sgt. Derek L. Shanfield, we will always remember your sacrifice. http://www.altoonamirror.com/page/content.detail/id/530666.html?nav... Please also say an extra prayer for my brother-in-law and his other brother, both who are also Marines.
I also lost my Great Grandmother Sue this week. I will remember all the times we spent together when I was young picking berries and baking. Rest in Peace Grandma. We know you will forever be happy now.
Please keep both my family and the Shanfield's in your thoughts and prayers. We can all use the extra support while we move forward.
