Milling lines

I'm in the process of building a house and I've gotten to the point of sanding the interior of my logs, I didn't realize that when the logs were placed that there were lines left from milling them which have stained yellowish. I started sanding and because the log is not exactly perfectly plained I now have "stripped" logs. Without using a 50 grit sand paper and sanding the same spot for 15 minutes I can't get the low groove cleaned. Is there any other ways to clean the fadding/yellowing from the log?

When we first moved into our log home, we had some areas that needed cleaning up. There is a product that we purchased at Lowe's that was a two step process. The first step was adding a solution that soaked into the area. The second step was to add the activator. These two solutions combined to form a white coating on the wood. We then sanded of the areas with a palm sander using a fine grit of 120. Since you have some deep groves, you could clean them out with a metal brush that would get into the grooves but not damage the wood. I am sorry that I cannot remember the name of this product since it was some time ago. It came as two bottle set. I hope this helps you some.; ▶ Reply to This

We have used a 40 grit belt sander then following it wtih a 80 and 100 grit palm sander. We tried a hand held planer but it was difficult to do in only 3" strips. In hinsight we should have poly-ed them immediately after they were set. Then the uv rays wouldn't have yellowed the lower part making it difficult to remove or notice with the naked eye. LESSON LEARNED! Hopefully others learn from my mistake and save themselves lots of time!!! I will add some pictures over the weekend.; ▶ Reply to This
