The Log Home Neighborhood

An online (log home) community for log home enthusiasts.

We are new to this neighborhood but hope to get some encouragement from someone who is past where we are in the process. We are getting bids for a septic system on our wooded lot. It seems the word "wooded" is causing all the bids to go up because of possible tree roots. Can anyone tell us if there is a way to cut down the cost or maybe even some prices you paid so we have a comparison. We need approximately 600 feet of field drain for a 4 bedroom perk.

We just had our system completed this spring. I think the cost will depend on what type of system you use. Our septic tanks are an alternative system with two tanks, an aerator and a pump to pump it to our drain field. The drain field (wooded lot) consists of a drip irrigation system, the tiny tubes are treated with something (not sure what) that keeps roots from growing around it. The cost for our total septic was $16,000.

Thank you for the input. Your system sounds more elaborate than we need but it helps.

Hey Tracey and Joe, we're new to all this too...we had excavation for foundation, septic dug and clearing of already tree'd area for around $18.0 k. Our lot is wooded, sloping, but had been logged 15+ years ago, so most is "new" tree growth. Former owner had each lot "cleared" where house should be built for selling purposes, so about 60 feet around where foundation was dug only had stumps. I can give you more details on the type of system if you would like...is for a 3 BR log home.

Tracy and Joe,

First of all, welcome! We just had our 2 bedroom septic system installed in June. We, too had a wooded lot with a house site already in place; it just needed clearing as new trees were beginning to grow. The cost is pretty much determined by the type of system you need and your location. We needed a T J panel block system. This is typically used when there's not much space for a drain field. Our cost was $4000. I hope you find this helpful. Best of luck to you!
