Ceiling Repair HELP!!!!!

My husband and I are in the process of preparing our current home for sale. With his working away from home, I am delegated to do some of the "easier" honey do's. My current honey do is scraping the popcorn ceiling in both bathrooms and mudroom. Mudroom and masterbath were completed with no problems...they look great; but for some reason, I'm having a problem with a particular section of the ceiling in the guest bathroom where primer and/or paint will not adhere to the drywall...it bubbles and peels off. This particular area is also what appears to be a seam where two sheets of drywall were sealed together with spackling??? I've tried spackling and sanding to no avail. Both primer and paint still bubble and peel. Can anyone offer any suggestions or helpful hints. Thanks so much

Two things come to mind (and I am NOT a professional)...

1.) Are there any moisture producing items (dishwashers, sinks, plumbing, etc.) above this area that could be emitting enough moisture to keep your paint from curing properly?

2.) Most paint stores or Home Depot, etc. sell a solution that can be applied to such areas to create a more stable foundation for paint or plaster to adhere.

I hope one of these suggestions point you in a direction that will help solve this problem. I know how frustrating something like this can be...

Permalink Reply by Ted on August 18, 2008 at 6:53pm: Sorry but you may have to cut out that portion of drywall and replace it with a new piece. Also, once you remove the drywall you will be able to see if there is a moisture problem inside the wall or ceiling which you will have to correct anyway.

I'm a carpenter and this is fairly straight forward stuff.
