The Log Home Neighborhood

An online (log home) community for log home enthusiasts.

It seems that almost every contributor to these forums has mentioned their special four-legged friends at one time or another. Many of us have uploaded photos of our pets and wildlife that visit our homes. So why not a group? Here's a place to showcase your best friend(s), share stories and experiences and enjoy each other's pets.

Lilly Belle is our always-on-duty watch dog that lets us know when a mouse or a deer is planning an attack on our home. Her bark would scare off a grizzly, but she lives up to her breed's moniker of "gentle giants". Lilly is four years old and we've raised her from 12 weeks. The gray feline is Pooh, half of our pair of indoor cats, Puff & Pooh... and no, I didn't name them.

I talked about Charlie and Minnie, our 'shop cats' in a previous blog post on this neighborhood a few weeks ago.

Here's another shot (unlikely in much of the cat-dog world) of Pooh and Lilly. That is one trusting cat!

No one likes having mice around, but this is almost too much... imagine this being the last thing you saw (Minnie) before you became lunch?

All your pets are beautiful! I must ask - did Minnie eat the mouse?!

Sorry to report Shelly, but yes.... Minnie ate the mouse. She is a tiny little cat, but she eats her weight in rodents. I see her carrying lunch past my office window 3-4 times per week. She's a sweetheart... unless you're smaller than her and she's hungry :-)

It is true that many pets make log homes their own too! Actually, planning special spaces for our furry and not-so- furry friends is an important aspect of designing a home. Areas for feeding, grooming and sleeping incorporated into specific areas (or multiple) in your home can make your day to day living easier and more enjoyable for you and your pet. Take for example, my little love-bug, Buddha, my Shichon "hybrid" pup. Can you tell he is an interior designer's dog? He even has his own "sofa" to settle down in! Of course, if you have a large pet, or one that required electricity (aquariums and such) you will need to take some extra time to plan for their perfect space.

Stephanie, tell me that's your pooch. My wife and I had such a dog that looked like a clone of this one. Although ours was completely black in color, the face is perfect. Ours was a very special friend who lived with us for 14 years.

When we lived in Mi with our Labrador , Prince, and Shih Tzu, Gizmo, who have both passed on and have be reincarnated into our new Shih Tzu, Charlie, we had some storys involving other animals. We use to just leave a large bowl of pet food out in the kitchen and they ate when hungry. In the spring one year, I went in the garage to get my sportscar going from being stored. I pulled the air cleaner off to put some gas in and it was completely full of dog food. The mice has been taking food from the bowl in the house and moving it to the garage. My wife found her boots full of dog food too.

We had a deer herd in our backyard. We would turn Gizmo loose and he would run down the hill to get them. Half the time he would fall and go rolling down the hill but the deer all fled when this little ball of fur came at them. He thought he was a lion.

The racoons would come up on the deck and they seemed to know the dogs couldn't get at them through the glass so they would sit there driving them nuts.

I won't go into the details of Prince and the skunk. We miss them but Charlie brings back the laughs.
