Holiday Recipe Exchange - Log Home style

Ok, so it's not exactly log home related, but who doesn't like to eat—especially around the holidays, right? A few months ago, we created a Community recipe exchange in our Just For Fun forum. A few people posted, but we kind of let it die off. Now that the holiday season is upon us, member Glenn V has rekindled my enthusiasm by sharing his mother's recipe for Delicious Raw Apple Cake. Sounds perfect for Thanksgiving, and I can't wait to try it. Check it out and post your own culinary concoction… Continue

Nothing stops the log home faithful-Not even Hurricane Ike

Forget the postal carrier's creed of rain, sleet, snow... whatever. When it comes to braving the weather no matter what Mother Nature can dish out, nothing beats the log home faithful. And I witnessed it first hand at our Log & Timber Home Show in Louisville, Kentucky, a little more than a week ago. On Sunday, the last day of the 3-day event, Hurricane Ike came barreling through the Midwest, making a beeline for Louisville. And yes, when… Continue

Golden Eagle Log Homes helps sponsor a charity event for those affected by cancer

I recently received this press release about how Golden Eagle Log Homes donated its showcase home for a charity event to help ease the burden of those affected by cancer. It does my heart good to know that we're involved with such a thoughtful industry, so I had to share. I hope anyone who's in the Wisconsin region (or those willing to travel for an excellent cause) is able to attend. - Donna Golden Eagle Log Homes, a leading log home producer, h… Continue

All-American Fun

I just traveled back in time. At least it felt like it. My husband, daughter and I just returned from an extended 4th of July weekend at his aunt and uncle's lakeside vacation house at Indian Lake, Ohio. On the 4th itself, 14 of us gathered for an old-fashioned family picnic, where we chowed down on burgers and watermelon, played lawn games (I learned the art of "cornhole"--a beanbag-toss game that's all the rage… Continue

Donna,

Here is some information as to how to get to our log home in order to join us on August 17, 2008. You will need to be at our home at 1:15 PM and we will then travel over to the log home to be toured. Our address is 6486 Dodge Lane Zuni, VA 23898. Please send me an e-mail so that I can respond with a map that will get you from Richmond to our log home and an invite letter that will give you all of the information. If you have any questions, please call us at 757-242-6570 (H) or 757-377-7614(CELL).

It should take you 3-4 hours to get here and it will take us about 20 minutes to get to the tour home.

You are welcome to stay the night at our home if the trip is to long for one day. You will have your own private bedroom and bath and we will even throw in some food.

Good Morning Donna from your new friends, Ted and Bonnie Steele (Mountain Venture Properties LLC). Still working on the sale of our home (see photo) here in Bradenton, FL and like our common friend Ted in Sarasota it looks like things are looking a little brighter in real estate market. My agent has sold a few homes lately in the area and more rentals and Leases with option to purchase too. We have our NC business established and need to be on site to really get things going. My virtual office is receiving more calls lately re: fractional log home ownership, and property management services which are the basis of our NC venture. Our mountain top (see photo) property awaits and our dream is still alive! Have a blessed week.... Ted & Bonnie

Hi again. Things at my end haven't changed a heck of a lot regarding the sale of my house. But in the last few days I have heard some comments that give me some hope. First, Michael Saunders Realtors, after months of bad news has now stated that the Sarasota market inventories are down and that prices seemed to have stabilized although they are still low. Additionally, I spoke with the manager of my local Home Depot who told me that customers are more optimistic about their house sales then they have been in the past several months. Of course the economy in general still sucks and until we see some stabilization in that quadrant we won't see much improvement.
Having said all that my wife, Marilyn and I have decided to bite the bullet and put our house on the market in the fall of 2009. We will take the best offer that comes along. Then onward and upward ... literally ... our property is in the North Carolina mountains.
Catch ya soon,
Ted

Hey Donna, I see we are going to be friends. Great! I look forward to reading about log home living from your perspective. In your position as Log Home Design Editor-In-Chief you can (no will) bring an enlightened point of view to the kind of stuff that most of us are hungry for.

Bring it on.
